Peile I tjink most people would say the match could go either way and will depend on the hop of the ball on the day..

2 great sides.. Dublin forwards as a unit are brillant IMO.. Mayo's back 6 is also up there as the best in the country.. cunniffe IMO is best in the corner.. I feel mayo lack a natural CB.. do mayo fans agree or am I not watching mayo enough?

They have been switching their CBs for years.. cunniffe seems to be there this year.. Boyle played there last year, think Vaughan the year before.. boyle seems happiest left half back.. whst do mayo fans think? I'm happy cunniffe to be at CB as he is best corner back IMO

Funny you mention bottling. Mayo were outsiders in all those games you mentioned.

Last year agaisnt donegal, dublin were runaway favourites - the game was over with 20 minutes to go. Now that is what you call bottling it.

Especially '96 Superblue. Best 15 we've had since 1951.

Gleebo A few points. 1) We lost by 7 not 15 pts 2) That Kerry side had only returned from holiday about a week and no training whereas Mayo played their full XV in front of a 15,000 crowd 3) Finally, if Kerry were playing Mayo on Sunday then ye would definitely be the favourites just like ye were last year and ye have improved a lot since then

KYTitletown, I'm aware of the respective margins of loss, and that Kerry were not in full swing when they met Mayo in Killarney. But judging championship potential on league is rarely the way to go. To give a recent example: Kerry were nearly relegated from Division One last year, but ended up taking home Sam last September. Likewise, three years ago, Mayo hockied Dublin in the league by 12 points, but squeaked by them by three points in the championship. Yeah, the Mayo performance against Dublin in the league last March was terrible, but Dublin needed to win the game to stave off relegation and Mayo didn't. Freak results happen in football sometimes.

I hope you are right Gleebo, I'd much prefer to see a Mayo AI win than another inevitable procession for the super-resourced Blue Juggernaut. It would much much more to the great people of Mayo without a shadow of doubt.

Small Margins and a bit of luck
'89 hit the post 3 times and rebounded, Cork hit post 3 times it goes over, but we bottled it go figure.
'96 Goalkeeper waits on line instead of coming freak bounce, match level, possibly lost the run of ourselves because we were ahead and didn't close it out
'96 replay, We have to admit to bottling it because to give any other excuse is just crying or so we are told.
'13 Goalkeeper decides to come, had he stayed no first goal, in at halftime well ahead, But lost by a point to a supposedly amazing team , but Hell Yeah we bottled it.
Could we have won? Yeah, Should we have won? Yeah 96 & 13. Did we bottle it. Not at all

Muckross is 100% correct in his view, I dont see why everyone is pouncing on him just because he had a minor criticism of the Dublin forwards!

The Dublin forwards are the best in the country, no one is disputing that.

However when faced with stern opposition vs Donegal last year, they panicked and started shooting from mad angles.

My view: This is because they are not used to coming up against stern opposition, had they come across a blanket defence last year prior to Donegal I would bet my bottom dollar that the extra experience would see them through that game.

They would have beaten Kerry in the final too, last years final was the worst I've seen in years!

Am I the only one who doesn't agree with "Dublin haven't been tested" line...Dublin played Monaghan in last years quarter final and were held until the 20th minute before they got the goal they required and then proceeded to steamroller them....Admittedly they tried the exact same approach against Donegal in the next game and the goals didn't come....they got caught on the counter and the rest is history, we were tactically naive in my opinion...what I'm saying is that there isn't a huge gap between Monaghan and Donegal...and the reason we were beaten by Donegal was down to tactics....

Kerry have glided into the All - Ireland semi final playing Tipperary (Division 3), a poor Cork side (who they needed a replay to beat) and Kildare (Division 3)...Not much being said about Kerry not being tested..

In response to KYtitletown and "the blue juggernaut"...its posters like you that make Dublin wins taste even sweeter...

KieranDuff, I think the 'this team haven't been tested, this team doesn't have a marquee forward, this team has had too many tough games this year' lines are just lazy analysis. Neither team has been tested and both land in the semi final in great condition. Should be a cracker of a game and may the best team win.

Green and Red: If not Dublin, I'd like to see Mayo win an All-Ireland as they have been knocking on the door a while now and they also play a nice brand of football...Either way one of us will have the opportunity to put Kerry back in their box...:-) (If they get past Tyrone)

My criticism i not of the Dublin forwards, as you say they are superb.

My criticism is aimed more at Jim Gavin who has chosen to put all his eggs into one attacking basket.

If you look at Kerry's forwards, starting & bench, they are not far off the Dublin unit. But what they have is the option to put Donaghy at the edge of the square if things are not going well further out.

Maybe such a player doesn't exist in Dublin, fair enough.

My suspicion is however that Jim Gavin doesn't believe in "lumping" balls into a big full forward & that he doesn't need to do it given the class at his disposal. That works fine against lesser opposition but, as we all saw last year, such hubris can get you into trouble against top class opposition.

That Donegal game was the last big challenge Dublin faced, the league & Leinster championship are not in the frame, & I haven't seen any sign that lessons have been learned.

Mayo 2015 are a better team than Donegal were last year & Dublin will receive the most severe examination. I just think the more options you have the better.

It will be a great game between two super teams & I am really looking forward to it.

Jesus if I read or hear one more word about last years semi against Donegal I'm gonna do a Forest Gump and run for months and when I eventually get to the end of that pier I'm gonna jump cause I can't take anymore ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh please make them stop. Well done Donegal you bet us last year but it's 2015 now everyone needs to get over over last years semi ffs.

Those who refuse to learn the lessons of history are condemned forever to repeat it.

Look at Kerry today as an example if last year is too painful for you.

Kerry not happy with how things were going upfront in the first half take Donaghy off, put Geaney on, change their whole approach & win well.

Is that recent enough for you?
