shortly after our keeper was down injuried for a brief spell we got a free within his range but he spook his head and arm, clearly was not up to it

Wasn't that against the breeze though?

Team named. No Bealin or Sheehan on the 26. Strong team and bench all the same. Hopefully the lads can put it up to the Royals. They will be a step up from who we have played this year so far. Looking forward to it plan to get there early and get a seat in case it's raining! Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 15669 - 16/06/2023 12:59:31 2486854 Link 0 |
Men against boys Saturday evening, it shows that there is a big difference between division 4 and middle/bottom of division 2. But it has been a very good year for our footballers and the right man is definitely in place. hunting (Wexford) - Posts: 1122 - 19/06/2023 09:46:08 2487082 Link 0 |
Disappointing end to the season, as I said Meath may have had their issue and struggled to find form and a style of play this year, but they are a team that have constantly operated at the highest level. While the lads will be disappointed that they didn't perform as well as they could, it shows them and the management what they need to aim for. D4 will be another dogfight next year, Laois have also benefited hugely from the TC and will be the team to beat in D4. Disappointing end but overall optimism for next year. zinny (Wexford) - Posts: 1959 - 19/06/2023 09:51:36 2487085 Link 0 |
Yep. Think they were tired maybe they looked a couple of steps slower than last week. Playing week on week is probably tough at that level. Last week was very warm too. Meath had last week off, though they had some classy players too. A step above what we are used to. Jonathan Bealin will be a big plus next year, as will Sheehan. Don't think O Connor will be back though.

We really need Sheehan back fully fit and locked in at full-back, and hopefully get Martin O'Connor back for centre-back because we haven't had a natural in those two key positions all year. We were far too open defensively on Saturday and need to find a balance between attacking football and not getting exposed so often. Kept running into contact against the bigger Meath lads too, but that comes with experience.

Definitely the defensive systems need to be worked on but I think he did right thing in allowing them to get back to playing attacking football first, it makes it a lot easier now to get player and supporters buy-in to go out and out defensive in some games. Meath started the year trying to play attacking football - the old fashioned way and quickly realised you will not beat teams at the top level doing it.

Sad to see our lads getting destroyed by Meath on Saturday. Easy to come on here and be critical but realistically we are quite simply not up to playing against better ranked teams. Magpie2 (Wexford) - Posts: 449 - 19/06/2023 15:05:09 2487386 Link 0 |
Was talking to a couple of the players on the pitch after the game in Navan they reckon Martin won't be back next year.

John is definitely the man for the job. Hopefully his underage commitments at his club don't get in the way!!!

that was a bitter let down, it did show up the big difference between the divs, , mostly in the size and speed of the players and the speed the game is played it, it will be abig lesson to a young keen team, we found a lot of new players this year amd there was 3/4 very good lads on u20 team who did not commit this year, hoefully they will now when they see we can go somewhere, odd he made a very late sub bringing bealin in for his first "cap" in along time, i guess just nailing down his commitment for next year, with longford, tipperary, laois, leitrim and improving carlow next year will be hard again but will fear non of them, is that the last we will see of ben? i fear so Stmunnsriver (Wexford) - Posts: 2969 - 21/06/2023 21:19:20 2488269 Link 0 |

Graham Holmes is the Annes goalie, good goalie in football and soccer.
