Wexford Inter County Football

Seen on Wexford weekly the minor and u20 management teams were ratified recently.

Anyone any idea what both squads are like, expectations etc, wonder will there be any minors trying to do both football and hurling.

There is an argument out there that some of the best footballers are playing hurling, and that football is easy to play compared to hurling. I know the team of the year in both Hurling and Football reflects how far you got in the championship unless you are from the Martins or Lee Chin but is the fist point true any more. Ross Banville was the only recognized Hurler to make the football team and in fairness would he really get a place if all the corner back and wing backs were available? It could be a product of earlier focus on one sport and generation of where lads excelled in both is gone even in the club game. I would think that at this point we perhaps have the best footballer's playing football and Wexford Football suffers from the same issues as Hurling, we are just not good enough at getting more kids into the game and giving them the proper coaching.

anyone in hollymount at the game? it was entertaining enough for december, thought lyones really stood out, he has turned into a big man, he has done a lot of gym work, couple of fringe lads stood out to, it will help make a stronger panel next season which is only days away now

Yeah was at it, good game of football considering the time of the year etc.

And I have definitely noticed that the footballers in terms of sheer size look a lot bigger.

Seen a post on Facebook also that the minor footballers raised money for charity before Christmas whilst doing a team bonding workout, fair play, hopefully an improved year for Wexford football overall coming in 2024.

Unfortunately won't win a championship game as nearly normal with our minor teams over last few years

it will interesting to see what type of a team he puts out v wicklow, will he try out fringe players leading in to the league or will he go for it and try set up a priceless home game v kildare?

Bit of a mix with the team, we need a good league, promotion would be a huge boost for football if we can pull it off.

League is priority

Definitely. A strong team named for the opening Byrne Cup clash. Alot of the better players who missed last years League named to start or on the bench.

League has to be the priority, cannot see Wicklow treating the game any different. That said if they win it a potential game against Kildare would be handy - assuming they account for Carlow.

Just saw Brosnan transferring to Carnew Emmets. Although 36, still one of the better forwards in club football. Will be a loss to Castletown.

Yep, been living up there a while I think at this stage.

It was said he wouldn't move club until he was finished with the county but looks like he's decided to go anyway.
