Section A

St Lomans v Kinnegad - Lomans win
Caulry v Tyrellspass - tyrellspass win
The Downs v Killucan - Downs win

Section B
Athlone V Tang - Athlone win
Moate v Garrycastle - Moate win
Mgar Shamrocks v Shandonagh - shandonagh win

with my above predictions I can see lomans securing a semi final spot effectively already, and I see both of Garrycastle or Mullingar Shamrocks staring relegation in the face after this weekends play , what a game and possible decider it will be when those two meet !

Replying To lakecounty90:  "Section A
Lomans V Kinnegad, Lomans by 10, there no team in Leinster that could live with Lomans forward line and for first time Dowdalls troops will have full pack. Win will in effect confirm there semi final place after two rounds
The Downs V Killucan, The Downs by 6, champions will be mad keen to get win after Lomans lesson. Loughlin and Co should take care of Killucan
Caulry v Tyrrellspass, Caulry by 1, for all the talk (myself included) of Caulry as dark horses Cakes cubs found out where they stand in R1as rank outsiders. Tpass are tough nuts but going to stick with my 33/1 shots

Section B
Moate V Garrycastle, Garrycastle by 1, convincing evidence Garrycastle are in decline as defeat to Shandonagh followed relegation to D2.Moate are a team for the future however I expect Garrycastle to get over the line
Shamrocks V Shandonagh Shandonagh by 3, Shamrocks likewise really need to win but there defence is porous and Dolan may be out
Athlone V Tang, Tang by 2, Athlone were off pace against Moate and even in D2 Final they struggled to put away Miltownpass with half team

Ill be back later with my treble"
St. Lomans by 10 is an interesting take.. think Kinnegad will win this one. St. Lomans do indeed have the best forwards in the county but their defense is beyond suspect. David Whelan is now center back, with Darragh O'Keefe full back, and these are the two major targets for teams to get at. The league final vs Kinnegad was especially poor, Kinnegad ran straight through the middle. The high ball also caused big problems vs The Downs not to mention the amount of goal opportunity The Downs missed. Teams will target those two players IMO. Kinnegad by 1 or 2 is my prediction. Heslin and Co. might not be able to get their hands on the ball to win by 10. Game of the weekend without a doubt. Potential county final pairing.

In recent years Kinnegad have been well able to match or beat Loman's in the group stages but never in knockout championship football. That might change in coming years as Kinnegad have a younger side but impossible in my view to see it happening this year, Loman's forwards are an inter county set, no defence at club level able to handle them.

I can see Kinnegad winning all 5 group games but losing a semi final. They don't have the experience to win big knock out games.

How many semis have they lost since they last won the championship? Must be at least 7.
It is highly likely that this younger generation of Kinnegad players will win at least one championship. But they might have to bide their time , like The Downs had to up to last year, and Shamrocks had to up to 2012.

I can see St.Lomans winning the next 3 or 4 in a row-their squad is just too good.

There squad was just as good last year, obviously unquestionably a great squad. I think if the downs have a full pick come the business end like they had last year they'll win it again however going off rumours I don't believe they have everyone . In my opinion over the next couple of years if they can manage to keep everyone they could be the ones winning 3 or 4 in a row however I do believe Lomans will win it this year especially with the downs "missing so much" . Kinnegad have made strides this year under cooney but I think they've a while to go to get to the top table of championship football.

I say Lomans by 10 because I think they can kill off Kinnegad with goals Kelvin Reilly and Dowdall are losses, O Keefe is struggling but still a big man on square, Jack Geoghgan also.
Defence isnt great but Lomans defend in numbers and break at pace, done so effectiely when you have probably the best club forward line in county in Ireland to hit inside
I wouldnt read too much into league final either as Dowdall ran the sht out of them in days before with championship in mind

Another impressive win for Moate last night and they seem favourites to top section B already. They've changed last year's defensive game plan slightly and are more of an attacking threat while still solid defensively, no goal conceded in two championship outings is a decent stat. Garrycastle's long reign as one of the county's standard bearers looks to be coming to an end, they've had over 20 years as the top side or in the top two, they still have decent chances of staying senior with their games against Athlone and Shamrocks crucial. The loss of Alex Gardiner, Tom O' Halloran and one of the Monaghan brothers really being felt, Mark McCallon was suspended last night, any club would struggle to replace those lads. Their junior team also comprehensively beaten last night in the Junior championship.

Sad to see.

Missing Gardiner, O Halloran, Guiheen, Michael and Andrew Monaghan. 5 starters.

Also last night they didn't have Mark McCallon or County player Eoin Mulvihill. Young Ben Donegan who was shooting well for them in the league also hasn't played any championship. Also no sign of Conor Cosgrove. That is serious amount of players to be missing from any team.

Some of the players playing last night looked way off the pace. Including some of their regulars

Moate a serious outfit. Not super footballers but management have them set up really well. Playing 12/13 players behind the ball and hitting teams on the counter.

Garrycastle looked like an average intermediate team last night. The scoreline flattered them. Moate were full of urgency and were very accurate. Lots of young players and will be a handful for most teams this year

Group B is great entertainment as always. Garrycastle and Athlone are more than likely out now. They could qualify with 3 wins , but would probably require a lot of draws in other games. Think they play each other in the final round. Tang almost certainly senior for another year , and will fancy their chances of qualifying now. 3 points seems a pretty weak return for Shandonagh.

Group A and Group B in Senior very interesting after the games today.

Caulry full value for their win against Tyrrellspass. Should have won by more however tyrrellspass never gave up. A lot of work done defensively by the looks of it. Kevin Maguire, Steven Connolly, the two Bakers and young O'Donovan were immense. Dolan and Moran old heads at the back and Conor McCormack made a huge impact off the bench.

Kinnrgad and Lomans drawing a surprise.

Athone will be disappointed with their loss. Both teams very well matched and a great win for Tang. The goal they got in the first half was brilliant

Athlone and Garrycastle in a dogfight to stay up already

Really impressed by Moates start to the championship. They had six championship debutante in win over Athlone and then to back that up by beating Garrycastle ! They are building something good at Hogan Park. Dont forget they lost Gavin Murray and Gorman for this year.

Big wins for Ballynacargy, Tang, Shamrocks, Milltown and Multy yesterday. Ballynacargy virtually safe from relegation already with two wins, CFCW in bother in section B, they'll need to beat Ballynacargy to have any hope of staying up, Multy with a vital narrow win over Finea, Tang with full points in section B of senior and favourites along with Moate to qualify for quarter finals, Rosemount well beaten by Milltown, Shandonagh poor versus Shamrocks, three points is a poor return.

I was at the double header in Rochfortbridge. Ballynacargy were very impressive. Pulled away from Maryland twice after Maryland had drawn level the first time.
Multy pulled it out of the fire at the end after trailing the whole game. Multy very young and light so probably just need to hang in and try stay intermediate for this year . Conor Gaffney looked a talented for CFCW. Very impressive forward.

And they are strong at minor again this year.
