How you would single out these lads as "better than" Heaney after how consistently well he has played for Galway for the last 5/6 years absolutely baffles me. Not taking anything away from Mannion or Reddington, both very good players but the dig at Heaney seems mad

I am sorry but you're talking bull, especially about Johnny Heaney who has performed at the top level for a number years consistently selected by Joyce and Walsh (they both can't be wrong).

Matt Tierney fabulous football, would walk in ahead of any Galway team before Daly or Mannion.

Heaney has played consistently well for Galway for years now what else do you want him to do ?

Saw him in the club championship this year marking mcdaid and on top of being a scoring threat throughout the game that never stopped kept Mcdaid completely out of the game

Don't disagree with Daly or Reddington getting a shot but strongly disagree with them being as good as Heaney. Being better than him is laughable

Reddington is excellent and would be worth a look at, I believe Joyce wanted him to join the squad but he is traveling to Australia once Dunmore's season is over.

Paul Mannion is very good but my understanding he got his opportunity in Joyce's first season and was dropped early on. I don't rate Daly, he had a mixed championship for Kilconly where he should be standing out at the Intermediate level.

Johnny Heaney is a great bit of stuff and has been for 5/6 seasons now.

True. Picking out Heaney in that example is bizarre. He has been consistently good for us since he came into the senior setup. We could do with a few more lads like him that can comfortably fit into both the half back and half forward lines. That's nothing against Daly or Reddington either by the way.

I'm not trying to put Heaney down he is a good player and will do a job for you no problem, but we have too many players like that o laoi, Sweeney, Eoin finnerty, Daly... All played in the all Ireland final.

An example of this is the ball Heaney got played through on goals in the first half in front of the Kerry keeper and shot straight away (for a point)..

He could have dummied back inside to make an opening for a shot on goal... he also had Kelly on the loop.

We need about 3 more Ian Burke's in that side to get back to an all Ireland..

No team plays with 3 Ian Burke type players. The game today, whether we like it or not, requires a lot of athletic players, particularly from half-back to half-forward. Kerry play with only 2 inside forwards. I'm delighted to see Ian Burke back by the way. He gives us a different option.
Heaney's shot against Kerry looked like it was for goal, but the block took the sting out of it. It was a great block in fairness.
He finished his goal very well against Mayo, showing good composure and has scored a number of big goals for Galway. He knows where the net is as well as any wing forward we've had for some time.
On Daly, he looks like he had the physical attributes and is a good footballer but he doesn't seem to be as involved as he should be. In the county semi-final this year, Ó Braonáin gave him a very tough outing and was aggressive to every ball. He beat him to a lot of ball as Árainn won almost every kick out in the first half.

Heaney has specialised role in the team whereby his defensive duties are are just as important if not more so. Wing half forwards in modern football are among the positions that are expected to cover the most ground on team.

Galway basically have that match won tonight after 10 minutes. Leitrim must be left to wonder would they be better off with someone local than Andy Moran and his expensive management team.

Also, you'd wonder how a lad from Clonbur (who didn't get near winning Junior this year) could catch the eye ahead of lads from clubs that were at the business end of the intermediate championship this year."
Niall Daly was wearing a protective boot last night.

On the newer guys.
Johnny McGrath seems to have really bulked up.
Fitzgerald was very good on Keith Britney
O'Flaherty was brilliant, pace, power, can score and can claim a kick out.
Maher was my MOTM, ran himself into the ground, moves the ball on, we dominated the middle.
Both keepers looked good, Power with one bad kick out.
Matthew Barrett, ran himself into the ground as well in the second half, will get fitter.
Evan Murphy, looked the part last night, great score, strong man with pace.
Dylan Canney, Good player, deserved-his score.
Brian Mannion, gave the ball away a couple of times but lively and can score.
Nathan Grainger, point and won two frees, very accurate, deserves the chance.
Darragh Varley, played and ran very well. Made a point of shaking his hand afterwards, big day for guys like this regardless of what club they are from, they are pulling on the Maroon jersey, huge honour, well done to them all that got their first run yesterday.

Great to see some new players line out. I thought Maher was good. Flaherty looked the part too. Fitzgerald I thought was caught out positioning wise quite a bit - for the one on one for example. Need Mulkerrins back so we can free up Kelly. I like Matthew Tierney but I wonder about his mobility especially when we are in Croke Park.

Watching Cian O'Neill on the sideline was interesting. He was completely running the show. He was almost providing running insights to the subs on the game in terms of tackle technique, off the ball running etc. Very interesting to see.

Mulkerrins was carrying the water, not sure what stage he's at. I heard O'Neill as well, he was roaring "work" at the forwards. To be fair that's what you get from the likes of Tierney. Very hard to pick 6 forwards for Galway, if your adding Ian Burke then you are going to really have to add a worker or 2 into the 6. Didn't really happen for McHugh last night but he's a good player. The second half reminded me of a trial game where fellas didn't know who they were playing with and just doing their own thing.

Biggest thing last night is we looked to have a goalkeeper. Varied Kickouts short, long and disguised. Comfortable with ball in hand and calm with 5 inexperienced defenders.

Proved to be a bridge too far for Clifden and Dunmore against Tyrone opposition today in the All-Ireland semi finals.

Clifden bowed out after extra time a missed penalty in the 2nd half proved costly.

Dunmore led by 1 with 4 minutes to play but conceded 1-2 in the remaining minutes.

So it's left to Moycullen to fly the Galway and Connacht flag, best of luck to them.
