2022 Wexford Intercounty Hurling

Naas have quality hurlers all over the pitch. This won't be a physical battle, Naas will try out hurl Oylegate from start to finish. I was at the Naas v Glenmore game and I felt Glenmore were prepared for a physical battle, never happened Naas played through them and around them. Oylegate need to bring their A game for the final. I'd predict Naas by 6pts, hope I'm wrong because I really like the Recks, Podge Doran and Casey are classy forwards.

I think our days of underestimating Kildare teams should be well over after this year. If Oylegate play as well as I've seen them play this year they should be capable of winning though. Not an easy game to call at all.....

The fact they beat the all ireland favourites and had 7 starting on a Joe Mcdonagh team shows they'll be formattable opponents.

Any news from the county convention Monday night or all fairly bog standard?

I believe it was all fairly bog standard. Couple of presentations made - one on plans for Wexford Park and other grounds, and the other on a demographics study that's being carried out. After that, mainly just the usual reports from the usual officials.

Healthy financial position for the year, but that had already been reported on anyway.

Out of 60 nominations, not one player who played outside of the top tier, and lets not forget there players from teams relegated who made no impact on latter stages of championships. Not even one Oylgate man, who are now senior. Was it Dessie Mythen picking the nominations or how was it done?"
Agree with you. Couple of the Bunclody lads had good seasons too. Maybe have an Intermediate and Junior team of the year picked by 2 panels more familiar with the grades?

It's a joke that they aren't acknowledged. At least last year there were nominees from the lower grades included. A fella getting promoted for Tara Rocks let's say would have been just as worthy as as a fella whose club made no impact in the latter stages of the senior championship for example.

Spot on Viking - Do it similar to inter county where they have all stars for top grade and then teams of year from other grades. Might not work having nominations for lower grades but select a team of the year. Just because a lad is from a junior/inter club and isn't playing senior doesn't mean he doesn't deserve to be acknowledged.

A lot of lads would have made it from several teams in Inter and Inter A if it was done correctly. Devitt blew lights out this year in Inter A, NIall Breen also. And as you said some of the Bunclody lads were fantastic. I know the panel picking this may not be familiar with Intermediate and Inter A, but they will be well familiar with it from next year. Very unfair.

Has anyone heard anything on trial games going ahead or have they already happened? I've usually got good connections to hear about these things but haven't been out much lately and all seems quite! Tipperary done something similar and it was run very well, with everyone having access to team programs for each weekend. I was talking to friends from Tipp and they all agreed it was a fantastic shop window for guys and some lads did very well in it. I would imagine it is too late for that sort of three week competition style format to happen in Wexford with it being Christmas next weekend and the Walsh Cup starting in early January.

I was just looking at the Fitzgibbon Cup squads that were announced and I've counted 32 Wexford players involved. While that may seem like a good number it is considerably smaller than the likes of Galway, Cork, Dublin and Tipperary. It is an awful pity we don't have a college in Wexford as it would undoubtedly boost numbers like it does in the aforementioned counties. We have 10 with DCU and 10 with Carlow IT. I was surprised at there only being 2 Wexford lads on the WIT team and 3 on the UCD team, both would have a lot of Wexford students attending.

32 is around the same as Limerick. Galway, Cork, Tipp and Dublin have always had far higher underage playing numbers than we have. There is no college in Tipp either. Out of interest I'm surprised Tipp have considerably more. How many do they have?

Noticed that too. There seems to be no news coming out of the senior squad at all. Hopefully that is a good thing!

Fair play to Oulart on winning the camogie all ireland, the kehoe twins Shelley and Stacey ( who got married yesterday) were outstanding while Una Leacy defied no cartilage in either knee with 3 goals, some going for Mary Leacy lifting the cup after giving birth 4 months ago.

Amazing stories about what several of them went through in the recent past. Well done to the players to triumph over adversity!

Nothing just that Joe O'Connor won't be available as he is going travelling.

Couple lads apparently retiring, will give young lads a good chance.
