It was only in the last few months that I asked, and that was the answer I got, so I assume it's still in use this year all right. Can see why it would still be handy to know the attendance at matches for all sorts of reasons other than just comparing it to cash taken at the gate anyway. Just guessing, but could be a case of a "gentleman's agreement" with Kilkenny, whereby they'd come to us again in 2023, and then we'd go to them for Walsh Cup in both 2024 and 2025. No disrespect whatsoever to any of the other things I'm about to mention, but if you're looking for a match in January to mark the official turning on of floodlights, hurling v Kilkenny is probably far more likely to bring a crowd than hurling v any of the other Walsh Cup counties, or football v whoever we get in the O'Byrne Cup. Your right but I'm guessing its 1 of 2 things. 1. As its a pre season competition everyone isn't as hung up on home and away and there's more flexibility, we were due home advantage in this year's final v Dublin but everyone was happy enough for it to be in Croke Park before Dublin V Armagh. 2. Might be a case the next 2 Walsh Cup's meetings Kilkenny have home advantage to even things up, 2 or 3 Kerry/ Cork games in a row were in Killarney while PUC was redeveloped and then that was evened out when the new stadium opened. You are right. We were at home in the League in 2019 and then home again in the Championship that year. That was our last Championship meeting with them outside Croke Park so we were away this year. We were away to them in the League in 2021, our next League meeting after 2019. We were away in Callan last time we played them in the Walsh Cup in 2020 before this year being at home.

Of course Pikeman. It's just I was at the Walsh Cup game on the uncovered side. There was a good lot of us there. And not too many seats empty in the stand facing us either. Hard to believe there were only 3000 at it.

Iggy O'Regan of Mount Sion is high in his praise of Darragh. He has been around enough managers during his career to know you would think. Iggy himself knows how to prepare goaltenders. One of his observations is goalies make the decision for the shot taker where to put the ball. Instead of standing your ground and let him make the mistake. Canuck (Waterford) - Posts: 2845 - 14/09/2022 19:03:45 2440698 Link 0 |
It makes sense to have Kilkenny to open Wexford's new floodlights. An exhibition match but might as well have your old enemy to launch it. ExiledInWex (Dublin) - Posts: 1250 - 15/09/2022 09:37:02 2440722 Link 0 |
I think people often over-estimate the size of the crowd in venues like Wexford Park. The stand there is officially rated to hold something like 4,500 people, but it can look "full" with maybe only little more than half of that, if people don't sit together as tightly as they could do. Consider the amount of elbow room you'd normally have in the stand in Wexford Park compared to the little amount you have when sitting in a bucket seat somewhere like Croke Park. Especially looking across from the open side, the stand can look full because all you see is rows and rows of heads. What you wouldn't see from that distance though is empty seating in between some of those rows. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2447 - 15/09/2022 11:58:51 2440744 Link 0 |

Great news for Orla Jacob on the birth of her daughter recently. I like Orla as a pundit, and am particularly delighted for her after the miserable abuse she had to endure from online cowards earlier in the year! Congratulations are indeed in order. foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 2068 - 12/10/2022 10:55:58 2443696 Link 0 |
