Need a fair pitch to hold a double header at the moment.

Very true :) We might have bumped heads a few days ago, but I'll agree with you 100% on this one! Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 3492 - 07/12/2021 13:41:20 2391990 Link 0 |

Damien Reck with Oilgate, I think his brother Shane is injured, Conor Devitt of Tara Rocks was on the panel this year. Next weekend Simon Donohoe, Conor Hearne and Paidi Foley will be playing football. bostonredsox (Wexford) - Posts: 4368 - 07/12/2021 13:47:28 2391991 Link 0 |

Darragh Egan runs a tight ship seemingly. Not a bad thing at all.

Are the fringe players from each District still going to play a District tournament? Doing similar in Tipp the last few weeks.

They might already have played these. Haven't been able to get any info whatsoever on the Senior Hurling panels activities. Which might be a good thing anyway. You would imagine the extended panel will be back training fulltime with the Walsh Cup next month.

I see we have 28 lads on the panels for the Fizgibbon Cup so far. Limerick have 29. Offaly 9 and Laois 12. Other counties can be counted on "Hurlerontheditch". Hopefully as many as possible of our lads make the starting 15s and if not the benches of their respective colleges. Good luck to them all! That's very encouraging. There was a spell not too long ago that we were lucky to have half a dozen playing top tier colleges. It seems to be improving at Sigerson too, which we were even more sparsely represented at in recent times.

It is encouraging Beano. Any idea where to get Sigerson panel lists?

Was at the Rock game earlier. They must feel sick but had nothing left to give in ET. They started like a steam train, conceded a couple of soft goals to trail by around 6 early in the second half, but finished the better team. And actually led in injury-time only for Mooncoin to force extra-time and ultimately push on then. beano (Wexford) - Posts: 1530 - 11/12/2021 18:02:52 2392428 Link 0 |

The walsh cup might seem trivial and unnecessary but it will give Darragh an opportunity to try out some of the new panel members. Let's hope he doesn't do a Davy and leave lads on the bench forever. The panel needs freshening up or we simply won't go very far next year. I would imagine that Egan will make the changes needed and i look forward to accessing his progress from here on in.

I agree new lads need a run out in the Walsh Cup but I still dont think there will be too many changes to our starting 15/23 come championship. Maybe a 2 in the 15 and another 2 on the bench. If that.

Good win by Oylegate-Glenbrien today over Offaly champions, Leinster final now on January 8th against Naas after their win over fancied Glenmore. WEX98 (Wexford) - Posts: 548 - 12/12/2021 08:12:38 2392496 Link 0 |

Couldn't make the game but got to the oilgate game, taught Damien Reck, Seamus Casey and Podge doran really stood up and were counted. Oilgate made a great start but got sloppy in the 2nd quarter with a good few wides, were 6 up at half time after playing with the breeze, the Offaly men got the 1st 2 points of the 2nd half and it looked like game on but Casey then scored a brilliantly taken goal quickly followed by Doran getting the 2nd, they managed the game comfortably from there. Naas will be a tough task in the final, the fact they beat a team like Glenmore shows their a serious oufit, looked at Kildare's last championship game this year and they had 7 starters and 3 subs from Naas, it will be the 1st time since 2011 a club outside of Kilkenny has won this Leinster competition when Mount Leinster Rangers won it, the Carlow champions got promoted to competing in the senior grade after that and I think a Naas win would do the same for the Kildare champions. Was chatting to someone at the Rocks game, said their comeback was stirring but gave it away right at the end. After the Rapps defeat i got a sense from a few that the Wexford champions shouldn't be losing to the Laois champions but after the game on TV last night I hope Clogh-Ballacolla have earned the respect they deserve.

There could be loads of opportunities for lads in the Walsh Cup with Oilgate in a January Leinster final and the possibility of the same from Shels and Crossabeg in football although I think the Shels will lose their semi final next weekend, not sure on Crossabeg. Also other years Fitzgibbon cup games have clashed with Walsh cup fixtures but don't know the schedule for this year for the 3rd level competition.
