He didnt look short of confidence when he scored 1-3 against Cork in last years AISF including the last gasp goal to take it to extra time. So I doubt it's that.

If Shane Reck, Kevin Foley and Devitt are fit and up to speed I'd start all 3 next weekend, sounds like Chin is still a bit away, weather looking dodgy for next weekend too so hopefully it will go ahead as planned. bostonredsox (Wexford) - Posts: 4368 - 21/02/2022 12:26:17 2401563 Link 0 |
Something struck me last night thinking about our recent history. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3822 - 21/02/2022 13:03:31 2401577 Link 0 |
Definitely if they are fully fit. Shane Reck played most of the Fitzgibbon semi for ITC. Any word on Bailey?

Has to be Davy for me with Liam Dunne 2nd. With the panel we had in the late 90s early 00s we should probably have done better I felt at the time. We didnt beat any Munster counties in the championship under Davy but we didnt play Cork or Limerick at all and only played Waterford and Tipp once each. Waterford got to the AIF after we lost to them and Tipp won it all when we lost to them. And Clare defo raised their game when playing against him. Hes a very divisive figure generally but even more so in his home county. So thered need to be an asterix against that "never beat a Munster county" stat. We just didnt play them very often if at all.

Haven't heard on Bailey but I think he togged out as an unused sub v Limerick so could be available too.

Think Liam dunne did a fine job when as you said no one else wanted the role. He also managed teams to beat Clare, Waterford and cork. Pity he couldn't win a Leinster but Kilkenny were still the team to beat and very few were able to that at the time

Not running Liam down because only for him wedve gone the way of Offaly but Clare were awful the year after they won the AI and so too were Waterford that year. And most Cork people reckon the team played its worst season of hurling ever in 2015. Clare were good in 2018 were unlucky not to go furthur. 2020 was just a disaster with most of our hurling squad playing championship club football coming into the county hurling championship and in 2021 I still think we left the Kilkenny and Clare games behind us. We still hadnt got over the Kilkenny game and didnt start playing until we were miles behind against Clare. The other 2 years the only games we lost we lost to the 2 AI finalists in 2017 and to the AI winners in 2019.

Taught Liam did a brilliant job from 2012-14 and rebuild us really, with the exception of a shock 2016 qualifier win against Cork the next 2 years were a bit of a disaster, 2017-19 under Davy was huge progress underpinned by winning Leinster, 2020 was a disaster but also the most bizarre year any of us might possibly live through, last year was just a massive regret, if we could have snuck it in the 70 mins against Kilkenny there was a great chance of another Leinster title.

hard to judge current managers and managers of 20 years ago as the remit of the role has changed so much, 1 thing I would say is a year I really enjoyed where we won no silverware was 2003, beat Offaly who were still competitive in Nowlan Park after been 8 or 9 points down, I remember a qualifier there against Waterford where the atmosphere was unbelievable, remember chatting to friends from Waterford and they remembered it fondly too for the atmosphere not so much the result, then there was also the classic drawn semi final v Cork, I was only 14 at the time.

Bad feeling from a Wexford perspective for this one. Think the boys had a heavy weekend of training and few late nights as well. More power to them, only young men but I think the focus might be a bit off for this one. LarryOBrother (Wexford) - Posts: 412 - 22/02/2022 11:37:02 2401822 Link 0 |

What a year that was. I had a cousin an the team that managed a goal in the leinster final and also qf vs Antrim. Paul codd free in the minute against Offaly I think. That Waterford game was a cracker and they were a serious outfit at the time. That Cork game was the game of the century I was referring to. Given no chance, and everyone to a man was exceptional. Mitch Jordan goal was incredible, and who could forget Mccarthy. We were running away with it, all of a sudden Cork got 2 goals, we come back again and looked finished in stoppage time. Will never forget it. The auld VHS is worn to death. We won't mention our meeting with them the following summer. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3822 - 22/02/2022 12:46:43 2401844 Link 0 |
Since my time following us since the early 90s the only thing consistent about us has been our inconsistency!!!

Perfect thanks Wexico . Hopefully it's better than the RTÉ Player which can be very unreliable!
