Wexford Intercounty Hurling 2023

Replying To Past hurler:  "Heard this morning Kilkenny man living in Wexford Pat Hoban is interested aswel ( Managed Kilkenny minors to All Ireland title in 2014 & a led Ballyhale to the Club All Ireland v Dunloy last year.

Maybe Hoban as manager and Herity as coach could be a good ticket."
Another thing he said was that there were a couple of underage Kilkenny jobs possibly coming up and that the Kilkenny lads might be better going for one of these if they want to manage Kilkennys Senior hurlers down the line.

Didn't know that. He was instrumental in Ballygunners rise as their coach. Really well thought of down there.

Replying To Viking66:  "Heard this morning from a Kilkenny lad that Herity would be expensive, well he said "he wouldn't come cheap"! He reckoned Brennan was desperate for the Wexford job when Davy left. Same lad thought Eamon O Shea was a very good coach especially for younger players and forwards, if he was interested. Pat Hoban would be an interesting choice. Has good intercounty experience at Intermediate and Minor."
Eamon O'Shea is based in Galway City so couldn't see that happening unless he's retired from his job in NUIG so has the free time for it.

Did a bit of asking about Hoban.
"Yeah he's a Mullinavat man originally didn't know he was living in Wexford, think he works in BOI here in KK. He managed the Kilkenny minors 2013-2015, in fariness they always did well when he was manager, narrowly lost the 2013 to a very good Waterford team (Gleeson & co) with a young team, then came back and won in 2014 against a fancied Limerick team. In 2015 they probably played there best stuff and got to a semi final, hurled very well and were well up against Galway when Galway scored 2 goals from the most blatant square balls you'll ever see and the game went to replay. In the replay they were again the better team but another goal from what looked like another square ball lost it for them. He usually brings a couple of coaches with him, Jimmy Meagher and Niall Leacy are currently with him in Ballyhale. In fairness when you look at his CV he has had a lot of success so you couldn't really argue with him, I do think it would be important that he had the right back room team around him as he does leave a lot of the coaching to Meagher (who I'm assuming won't be available) and Leacey."

Is Declan Ruth not suspended? And do those suggesting him not know why he was suspended in the first place?

Surely it would motorway the whole way from Galway to Ferns these days, Galway to M50, M50 to Ferns.

Is that really such a big deal once he learnt his lesson?

Is that really such a big deal once he learnt his lesson? Not that I think he should be the next manager anyway.

Suspension completed a long time ago. Is Skippy ready for the job? He's won a county championship with Rapps, lost the plot after losing a semi final the following year, admittedly he had right to feel aggrieved but how he went about it was wrong. Did he mange Rathnure to a camogie final? Was there also issues after that?
I'd give him a crack at it with a strong backroom team. I'd rather a local manager than an outsider.

No it isn't just giving the background of his ban. Lesson is stay away from social media when emotions are running high.

I couldn't see it happening no matter what road he travels, surely time is bigger consideration than distance, I was in Galway for the Leinster game this year went that motorway route, was there for a holiday last year and went up that route and back through Tullamore, Portlaoise, Carlow, timewise there pretty much the same.

I don't know the details of the ban or what caused the ban but maybe what Wexford needed this year was more emotion on the side line or in the changing room before a match. (don't get me wrong im not looking for crazy circus Davy levels of emotion)

Davy got the very limit out of that team, in fact under Davy we punched well above our weight.

That's a pretty pessimistic outlook.

The best out of that team would have won the all Ireland in 19.

The spine of our team is perfectly capable of reaching a semi final every year.

Liam Dunne got more out of some of them.

If I was a Wexford person, I would be looking at it that way too. Get a passionate Wexford man to light a fire, bring through the u20's who are a good crop of players.
Money spent on underage coaching and development will pay more than any outside manager bar Wexford had the players to win an All-Ireland, which I don't think you have.
