Massive news Egan is gone. I hope they have a management team in place very soon. This is nearly 2 months since we were knocked out it's a joke it's taken so long

Well its been announced this evening that Egan is gone.

Its a bit odd, all the talk was that he was to present his plans tomorrow evening but the statement said this evening the decision has been made not to extend his 2 year term.

Let the guessing game commence??

Rumours of a team made up of Skippy Ruth, Keith Rossiter and someone from Kilkenny if we are led to believe!

Another thing was a few of the senior players really pushed for Egan to stay (the undroppales) but outside of them both a mix of panel members and county board members were not impressed by him this year.

There was no comeback for him after the Westmeath match if truth be told.

To the surprise of absolutely no-one who expects progress and improvement. A nice fella, just didn't work out. Departs with a 100% win record in championship against Kilkenny but no wins in two vs. Westmeath, which sums up his tenure really.

That sounds interesting. Would that be David Herity or Eddie Brennan?

Would Herity not be capable of the job on his own as opposed to being a selector under Skippy Ruth?

Skippy 0 experience in intercounty management although a good Wexford man does he have the experience?

Would 5 years at Kildare be enough to take charge of Wexford even though Kildare are no doubt in a better place than before he took over.

I'd have doubts around Fortune too. It's telling that Dublin GAA never offered him a role with the senior hurlers. OK he did well with Ballyboden but did he really do well with Westmeath? I wouldn't have thought so.

Jason Ryan....should we even go there?

Carlow manager would be great but can we really take him?

I'm glad they took the decision not to keep Egan. Last year was unforgiveable but I'm a bit worried about what comes next. If its another poorly thought out gamble and it doesn't work I just see us battling relegation again.

Vital decisions to be made

For me, Wexford made the right call on this.
Management is a pressurised environment, even at underage. Many of us can only imagine the pressure the week of that Kilkenny match. Darragh Egan is by all accounts a good man but let it be a lesson to the Wexford county board that a "left field" appointment like this might throw up a doozie every now and then but mostly end as this one has.
No doubt Darragh Egan will go back and get an underage job in Tipp or a Joe McDonagh job and may work his way in to a top job again. He might come back to haunt Wexford down the line somewhere.
But at very least, ensure a manager has a CV of underage success at inter county level, top club level not with a team of galacticos or good success in Joe McDonagh for example before giving a big job.
Lots of talk of Skippy with the locals on WhatsApp in the last hour.
If the young lads in Wexford don't commit and retire these elder statesmen Wexford are in big trouble.

That's exactly what I heard right after the Kilkenny game. Shouldn't have took so long then.

Is Wexford Hurling in a better or worse place since he arrived? do the result on the field reflect what good he has done. I think we all would agree that what he has tried to do is bring new younger players into the squad, so we certainly have a better picture of where we stand in relation to what is available out there. Is there anyone out there that would dispute any of that?
At the end of the day despite what good he may have done, results didn't go his way and that is why he had to go.

The speculation begins. Strange how the county board made its decision one day before Egan was to hand in his plan for 2024.
I wonder do they have somebody lined up or will we have to wait months for the white smoke to appear.
Question is though, is there anybody with a proven track record at intercounty level who would be interested in the Wexford job? I honestly can't think of anyone. It's likely they will go for a club manager. The candidates there would be poor enough. Maybe Declan Ruth could make the step up but it would be a big risk.
Keith Rositter will I think be in the mix or would it be better to keep him with the u20s for another year? It's vital we get the right man to instil passion and intensity into the lads for next year.
Interesting days or weeks or months ahead.

County board needs a new overhaul. What a terrible decision. Egan was very unlucky this year and had all his backroom team in place for next year with the players backing, he should of been giving another chance, he was almost there! Apparantly there was a big blow up today with the county board,
Now we get a new manager and start all over again, a good bulk of the team only have a year or two left at the top flight! This was a bad decision!

Hopefully they will someone in place soon. Make up should be wexford man as manager. 2 wexford selectors and AN Other selector.

3 year term. Need to rebuild next year. Introduce even more young blood.

Expectations should not be high for next year. New management team should be judged on year 2 and 3.

I really up county board have been working on a replacement. I fear the dreaded 3 man selection committee could be announced soon tho.
