cavanman47, Eamonnmacs post come across to me as nothing but condescending and why he needs to address the manager as Mc Glennan is totally disrespectful. Not hard to show a person that took over the toughest job in the country in Gaelic football a little respect. The post epitomises everything thats rotten about this forum."
Sean, I'm a bit lost as to where you see an issue with that post.

How is it in any way offensive to call the a manager by his surname. I can't think of anyone who refers to Cody as Brian or to McGeeney as Kieran. Didn't you yourself refuse to call "Mr Hyland " Terry!!?? Even though he was generally well know to cavan fans and widely known as Terry to the vast majority."
You must realise the position Sean O Rinn is in. Not all his views are his own. He's caught between a rock and a hard stone.

Sean o Rinn,

If what you read on an internet forum offends you, perhaps you should stop reading it.

Just a thought.

Clarke is not a full back

Please show me the post where I made an adverse comment regarding KIllian Clarke not sure you will or any player for that matter. If my memory serves me right regarding Killian playing in midfield I may have made a remark saying he should be either playing as a wing half back or wing forward for I feel one will get the best out of him in these positions. This off course is just my opinion. He could well turn out to be the best midfielder we ever had and let me tell you that would be brilliant.

Sean .,you said i was disrespectful to Mr mc Gleenan by using his surname ..so when you refer to killian clarke as "clarke" that should be an insult by the same standard. It is very normal in this forum to use surname. TIme to move on from this sidetrack and back to the football.

What are we doing to improve our shooting and ensuring our 6 forward are confident and looking for opportunities to shoot from 30-35 years out.

How do reduce the amount of times we run into cul de sacs.

A mystery at the end of last season was the non performance of johnson and mc kiernan in the big games , was it injuries , targetting by the opposition as they were our big name players or just not turning up.

An Cabhan Abu.

I like the look of Conor madden hopefully he is natural scoring forward we can encourage.

wow ! that's a hell of a rant. Where did that come from. Why on earth would you be so offended by eamonnmac's post when you consider some of the stuff on here. Have a read through it again and apologise to the man. just say you were not feeling well, were a little tired and emotional and misinterpeted the post. I'm sure he will forgive you.

1. SeanORinn - Has been around Breffni Park for a long time - watches a few training sessions and thinks hes qualified to pick the team and give information on injuries & absentees.
2. McGleenon's first year in charge - massive job to sustain Division 1 status , Kerry, Mayo, Tyrone, Dublin, all potential All-Ireland Finalists - but needs he needs time - ideally, would have been good to have him whilst we were in Division 2, and let him build the team. He's caught between a rock and a hard place - does he go out and play the attacking football that he did at club level, or does he try to keep it tight - my view, he has nothing to lose, will be difficult to stay up, so why not use Division 1 to play the way he wants to play - who knows, it might be effective.
3. Club Football - its a mess at the moment and has been for a number of years, absolutely no consideration for club players, last year in Cavan, we played a club match in May, didn't play the next one til July, and then it was 3 games in 7 days. Again, this year, 1 club match in March and a few weeks before the next. Co Board will say its to protect Co Players, utter bull from them. ACFL should be run on the days that the County Team is not playing.

The way we have been struggling for top class forwards this few years, what if the county board got someone like Jason Reilly, or Gerard peirson to bring in maybe 5 or 6 lads like, David Brady, Toma's Edward donohoe, Liam galligan, caoimin Reilly, to name a few and work on them for a year or so developed them because there is talent there.

lets face it, we don't have any marquee forwards like Conor Mc Manus, Colm Cooper etc. These are naturals. They are born, not created.
There isn't a single player in Cavan with their ability. We have average players right across the field and I can't understand why no one can see this.
There isn't a single player that will turn a game with flair so therefore we have to revert to a system.
Look at Monaghan when Conor Mc Manus gets closed down. Their average players are also lost. Only difference they build their system around mc Manus and it gets them some success, but are found wanting when they come up against teams with numerous talented forward and backs.
They players you mention won't change anything. They are good players but they are certainly not marquee forwards and never will be.
We need to be realistic and realise that for the next 10 years there is no one to set the world alight and that we need a game plan to get the most out of what we have. I'm not saying we play 15 men behind the ball, but there has to be a compromise somewhere.
We are an average team of good players and unfortunately Div 2 is our standard. Hopefully we learn from this year.

It doesn't matter what forwards you have if you don't let the ball into them fast what does it matter. There too many gloryhunters coming from deep , trying to do it all themselves, running up blind alleys and getting turned over..
All just to get their name in the Celt.

Jason Reilly and Pearson would be of no benifit playing the game the way we play it. .
Watch Dublin they come off the shoulder in the opposing half .
Let the ball in fast then come off the shoulder.
We get turned over way too much then the pressure on the half backline and we get cut wide open
Let the ball in fast to Johnston and o Connor with lads like Mackey and Smith coming off the shoulder inside the opposing 45 not our own 45

Eh, were you at the Dublin game? I wouldn't say that their build up play was exactly direct (apart from a couple of high balls into O'Gara!
If we learned anything from the Dublin game, it should have been their patience and the value they put in having possession. Actually, they had better movement inside which enabled them to score more but there is no way they were 'letting it in' quicker that we were! Also, they had a fair few men behind the ball so no wonder they had men coming off the shoulder as they defended and do defend in huge numbers. This theory of Dublin going man to man is total nonsense but thats another point altogether!

Don't know where you've been hibernating for the last 6/7 years but letting it in first time and running off the shoulder doesn't work anymore. Certainly not for Cavan, if you're going to let it in first time the receiving player needs to immediately turn and shoot over the shoulder before he's surrounded and the ball gets hand passed back to around midfield again. I know you don't go to games but seriously how many years has it been?

I see in the Celt where Mattie was asked about the injuries in the panel - he mentioned Gearoid back to full fitness and Raymond Galligan nearly there and apart from that everyone else is fine and available for selection. So we can take it then that Mackey , Argue and Jack Brady are all fit and ready to go - that's great news then . Good man Mattie - positive as ever !

Well lads. Many off you heading to Healy park on Sunday?Looking forward to it. Gives a very windy wet day for Sunday. How do you think it will go?
The club rooms at Healy Park was broke into on Monday night, safes taken and the place was wrecked. Maybe if any of you are involved with your clubs I would suggest to increase the security. Alot of scumbags about.

What was Argues injury as i believe that he is needed? Saw him at last few league games and he didnt seem to be carrying any heavy knocks. Is Buchanan near a return? Tyrone have a decent unit at midfield and i feel that we will need to break even there to have any chance.
