A wonderful crowd turned up at Tinahely GAA grounds on Friday evening last to welcome GAA President Nicky Brennan as he performed the official opening of the new clubhouse and the town was en fete in red and white for the occasion.

Micko keeping us guessing
He might have opted out of the Tommy Murphy Cup and decided to take a bit of a break but the man from Waterville is still keeping a keen eye on proceedings within the county senior football scene and has said that he will attend the TMC games that Wicklow are involved in.

Patsy Burke mourned throughout Wicklow
There was sadness in the world of sheep farming and Baltinglass football in particular following the death on Thursday last (26 June) of Patsy Burke formerly of Tuckmill who died in Naas Hospital having lived in Belan Street for a number of years.

Newtown Senior team travelled to Aughrim on Sunday to play county champions, Baltinglass, in the first round of the County Championship.

Murphy shines in rare Louth hurling success
Diarmuid Murphy scored 1-6 as Louth captured the Leinster junior hurling shield with a 1-16 to 1-8 victory over Wicklow at a rain-lashed Aughrim on Saturday.

Kilcoole look on in vain
There was no hiding place for Kilcoole on Friday evening last in Pearse Park as the team was well and truly hammered in the senior hurling championship coming up against Carnew Emmets and losing by a whopping thirty nine points.

Intermediate championship fare at the weekend
There was some fine action in the Intermediate football championship last weekend with Kilbride surprising fancied Aughrim and Annacurra overcame an under strength Ballymanus. The Liffeysiders now meet Dunlavin while Annacurra take on Knockanna.

Rathnew and Baltinglass on show this Sunday
Rathnew make their first 2008 championship appearance on Sunday in Aughrim when they face neighbours and champions of 2003, St. Patrick’s in a game that begins at 13.30 and that is followed by Baltinglass versus Newtown at 15.00.

Blesso . just about
Hollywood will probably feel somewhat aggrieved not to have denied Blessington, having looked like winners entering the final stages of the game but the town team just about did enough and thanks to a late David Behan goal secured the two points.

Walsh has a bit of an injury
Thomas Walsh has indicated that there is no truth whatsoever in rumours that he is halfway to America already to play football there for the summer despite not being able to turn our for Bray Emmets against Kiltegan last weekend.
