Liam Sheedy has paid a glowing tribute to Lar Corbett by describing him as one of the most talented hurlers Tipperary has ever produced.

The Thurles Sarsfields attacker, who announced his inter-county retirement for a second time yesterday, was named Hurler of the Year in 2010 after his hat-trick of goals in the All-Ireland final put paid to Kilkenny's 'drive for five'.

Sheedy, who managed Tipp to that memorable All-Ireland success, told the Irish Sun: "He was an incredibly gifted hurler.

"The things he could do with the ball were unbelievable and the speed he played at was amazing.

"During the sprints in training, Lar would be up front. But there would be other guys close around him pushing all the time as well. But once the ball was introduced, nobody could match him.

"He was as fast with the hurley and ball as he was without. It's as if the ball ignited him.

"No more than James (Woodlock) and Conor (O'Mahony) and Shane (McGrath), he has been a great servant and none of them owe anything to Tipperary hurling."

Corbett previously retired in February 2012, only to reverse his decision three months later. But the 34-year-old's decision appears final this time.
