December 28, 2012

Seneschalstown's Stephanie Byrne
Seneschalstown retained the Ladies SFC title at the expense of Boardsmill, Duleek Bellewstown returned to the senior ranks with a well deserved win over Navan O'Mahony's in the Intermediate decider while Moynalvey completed a memorable year for the parish by claiming the Junior title.
Our contenders for this award are Stephanie Byrne (Seneschalstown), Monica McGuirk (Duleek Bellewstown), Eileen Connolly (Moynalvey) and Brigetta Lynch (Oldcastle).
Oldcastle are still making steady progress as they find their feet in the senior football grade. Under the guidance of John McEnroe they reached the Division 1 league final but came up against an in form Seneschalstown. On the day The Yellow Furze ladies proved too strong winning 3-20 to 4-7. Bridgetta Lynch was outstanding for Oldcastle. Everytime the talented attacker got the ball Seneschalstown were in trouble. Bridgetta scored 2-1 that day at Dunganny.
Equally as good as Bridgetta Lynch that day was Seneschalstown's Stephanie Byrne. Stephanie helped herself to an impressive 1-5 on the day and was the main attacking threat to Oldcastle. Stephanie was presented with the player of the match after the game. In the senior Championship final Stephanie turned in another great performance as Seneschalstown retained their crown. Starting at centre forward the county player scored 1-3 as Boardsmill were defeated 2-7 to 0-7.
Duleek Bellewstown returned to the senior ranks with a final day win over Navan O'Mahony's. Lining out in goals that day for the winners was Monica McGuirk. Time and again the number 1 made great saves and clearances to deny O'Mahonys. With ten minutes left at Dunsany, Duleek held a one point lead and the Navan girls were pressing for the equaliser. McGuirk made two brilliant saves and this inspired her team mates to go on and win by 1-11 to 0-9.
Moynalvey won the Junior Championship when they defeated Dunsany 3-12 to 1-2 in the final at Dunsany. Top of her game that day was Eileen Conneely. Eileen turned gave an exhibition of football, completely dominating the middle of the park as Moynalvey went on to record a comfortably win. To finish the day in style Eileen was presented with the player of the match award.
Honourable mentions Stephanie Thompson (Moynalvey), Sarah Stanley (Navan O'Mahony's), Aoife Conlon (Dee Rangers) and Louise Byrne (Seneschalstown).
