Awards: Intermediate Club Footballer of the Year

December 24, 2012

Na Fianna's Jamie Queeney
Trim's bid for an immediate return to the top flight faltered at the final hurdle when Na Fianna proved to be too good for John Andrews' men.

1-12 to 1-10 was the final scoreline in the Mattie McDonnell Cup final but no fault for the defeat can be placed at the doorstep of the town side's experienced defender Ronan Fitzsimons.

The former Meath player has consistently produced the goods for his club who haven't enjoyed the best of fortunes on the field in recent years but he will, once again, spearhead their challenge for intermediate honours in the New Year.

Captain Christy Cosgrave, Diarmuid Bailey, Michael Foley, Daniel Queeney and Dalton McDonagh all played instrumental roles as champions Na Fianna recorded six wins from six championship outings in 2012.

However, there can be no looking beyond county player Jamie Queeney for this award. Queeney lined out at midfield for the Enfield/Baconstown side and produced a string of impressive displays.

He was particularly influential during the first half of the decider when he helped establish a 1-9 to 0-2 half-time advantage for his team.

Others who deserve honourable mention are Peadar Byrne (Ballinlough), Damien Carroll (Ballinabrackey) and the St Michael's trio of John Barry and Felim O'Reilly and David Lynch.

On Thursday we will announce our Best Performance in a Ladies Football Final
