Any new footballers out there worthy for county?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Saw a good bit of senior championship but not too many new faces standing out for me.
Form those that qualified to the knockout stages, I thought Athlone's 2 midfielders Stapleton and Reid have potential and John Connellan will surely be back. Giles and Leech impressed for Kinnegad. Luke Loughlin will definitely be in from The Downs and Joseph Moran albeit only out of minor looks a mighty prospect. Any young pretenders from Lomans or Tyrrellspass worth a look ? Surely a few from the Intermediate and Junior clubs worthy of consideration ?

Don't forget that if a player is on u20 panel then they can't be on senior championship panel. Moran will be left with 20s surely, and I think Reid is underage too. Loughlin is obviously good enough but I don't see it working. Connellan will of course be back in, and should be one of the first names in the forward line. There are not many hidden gems that could step straight in, but certainly a few that could be developed with an eye on further down the line.

Luke Loughlin would be a cert to start if he can be managed.. Hopefully he has the appetite for it as he has serious talent.

I saw Rochfortbridge in the final and I couldn't see a whole lot of players Mick on that team who are inter county standard. Dean McNicholas as been in and out of squads but hasn't had a proper chance. I would like to see David Whelan from Lomans given a run also in the league; I know he has been around the squad in recent years.

Good man Matthew. I suppose a team that beats a team containing 5 county panellists has no good players. They are called teams for a reason.

Your argument doesn't make sense. He said that that he couldn't see many players of county standard, and you said they're called a team for a reason, essentially saying that they're the sum of their parts rather than being reliant on individual talents. Basically, you agreed with him.

I think he was able to play because he wasn't named when he came back from the states , he also played in the junior hurling final which is surely unfair?.

I know in Roscommon if you miss a year of club action as in dont play any senior games you are automatically regraded for the following year

It's v unfair. It was only last year he was destroying the whole Roscommon back line with New York. He's a county standard player.

In most counties a club is not allowed name a player that didn't play with the same club in the previous year whether it be through injury, being abroad or whatever. While it may be unfair he or anyone else in a similar situation is entitled to play based on the rules.

Surely be a lot of new faces around the panel in a number of positions, will he invest in youth since he's over both u21 and senior? A lot of questions to be asked. Can see the likes of Moran and Cully making it to the Senior panel they've an abundance of talent . Possibly a new face in goal Bryan had his chance but possibly one of the u21s? Kev Fagan is still away and could be an asset. After that huge potential in likes of Nugent of rosemount and Geraghty in Milltownpass, follow a lot of underage and seen both play look to be about to battle it out at U20 but possibly more. Also Will like the likes of J Connellan or Dempsey return ? Could be a very interesting year in the lake county

No harm giving lads a go. At least nobody could then say they werent given a chance. They are all Senior players though. Surely we have plenty worthy of a change from the other 2 grades.

St Marys have a couple of good players in Enda, Ned and Niall Cully,Sean Lyster and Eoin Gorman . Miltownpass Finbar Coyne would deff make any team.

don't agree nealymdaeit, those players you mentioned are not ready yet for senior intercounty, finbar coyne has it all to prove, had a bad year

i am kinda agreeing with nearlymade it; more from the perspective of looking at intermediate talent. the suggestions beyond that are all senior players; senior club football in wm is very poor. you wil see this in lomans lack of progression in leinster( although totally dominating a poor wm football scene). coroon should not be selected, loughlin does not have the mental mindset for senior panel
