Wicklow - Senior Championship

The senior championship is turning into the most competitive in years. We have 8 teams left and i think the results over the last few months have shown that it could be very close.
Rathnew drew with a very unlucky Annacurra set up last week in the play off. The Village are always strong and their guts and bravery were their for all to see.
St. Pats and Batinglass will be there in the semis without doubt. Eire Og and Kiltegan are very strong contenders with the latter powered by Furlong,Dalton and Finn a big shout to pick up Miley this year. I watched the Kiltegan match v Agb a few weeks back and they were fit, powerful and accurate. Last years Inter championship win has brought the Agb men on however their senior inexperience was evident v Kiltegan, some good players but will struggle to make the last 4.
Blessington are also in the running however their early form suggests they need to up their game but they have the ability no doubt but may bow out at the quarter final stage.
The dark horse of the championship might be Avondale! They powered through their group and have some very exciting young players. They beat a strong Annacurra team the last day with an ease that would suggest there is more to come, with that form of the playoff in mind the Dales are my contender to make the semi if not the final.

Interesting thoughts Wickman, wouldn't it be great to see someone like Avondale pushing on to a senior title. If they do it would be some achievement but Pats have to be favourites!

Were Avondale not beaten by Dunlavin (who were lucky to make it out of their group in the intermediate) in the league by 10 points at the weekend? Hardly the form of senior finalists?

Well as I only know too well, league form means nothing! Dunlavin beat Tinahely last year in the league by near on 20 points then couldn't beat a team 2 divisions below in champ. League means nothing!

Rathnew to beat Annacurra by 7 pts at the weekend. I fancy Pats for the outright win in the championship. Kiltegan are too 1 dimensional with Seanie up top. A good game plan will keep him quiet and then you beat Kiltegan. Just my 2 cents for what it's worth

Would love to see the dales up there on final day but realistically I don't think that will happen. In my view they are probably a mid table team (after the likes of pats, balto, kiltegan, ratnew, agb and greystones) at the moment. They have some good young lads coming but will have to serve their time first.

Avondale did not power through the group! Gifted a soft penalty to draw with Newtown. Improved 100% v Eire Og but lost. And bet a bad Annacurra team by 2 points. However, great chance to make the semi finals. The match up with AGB is extremely similar. Both like a running game and have speed in abundance. Rathnew will beat Annacurra by 5 or 6. They never beat anyone by a cricket score but Annacurra had their chance and Rathnew Kiltegan will be tie of the following round. Baltinglass/Pats/AGB to make semis and Rathnew to scrape by (May need a replay)

A bad Annacurra team? Who drew with Rathnew, who beat balto? Give it a rest mata, form guide is all im saying is that I agree with Wickman1 that Avondale have a squeak of winning this. As I said Pats are the dominant team in my opinion and their win up in Dublin at the weekend suggests they are ready for the quarter final!
But I wouldn't rule out anyone especially Avondale!

Any chance of a Conor McGraynor return? He'd be some boost to them!

Very poor in the run into the Rathnew match Liamy. Avondale should have beaten them by 8 or 9 points. But as I said, Avondale are improving game on game but I dont think they will be in the mix. Semi finals will be an achievement but they got the best side of the draw finishing second in that group. Eire Óg got no reward for topping it and they "powered through" that group. If Kiltegan beat Rathnew / Annacurra, draw Avondale/AGB in semis, I'd take a little trip to the bookies on them.
