O'Halon, Martin

August 03, 2006
The late Martin O'Hanlon Martin 'Hank' O'Hanlon was always a loving son, brother, father and fiance. He will also be fondly remembered as a grandson, nephew, brother-in-law, son-in-law and especially a very loving uncle who will be sadly missed by his nieces forever. Once you became a friend of Hank you were friends for always. There isn't much you can say about a man who was loved and known far and wide. No matter where you went in the country or across the water, if you were with him you would always meet someone he knew. Hank, who was born in 1972, was a loving son to his parents, did his own thing most of the time but when his parents needed him to be there he was no matter what.He always made them laugh and would pull their strings just for the kick of it. But they would always see the funny side because to them he will always be their big friendly giant who they will love and sadly miss forever. As a brother he fought, laughed and cried with his brother and sister. Always the one with the big head, the way he loved himself in front of the mirror cracked everyone up and made them laugh. He shared a different bond with his brother and sister and was loved equally as much by them. Hank was there for them both when they needed him most. As a father Hank loved his two daughters with all his heart and soul and will protect them always. Through trial and error, as with most parents, he became an excellent, doting father. Through his children he also left his legacy, his memory and a big part of himself with us which we will see as his children grow and mature. Hank's children got the best of him and they will carry that with them throughout their lives. He will always be with them, guarding them. As a fiance Hank loved his partner with everything he had in him. He had finally put into place the steps to becoming a husband which was due to happen on July 18, 2007. But unfortunately that can no longer happen. With his partner he made a home and shared the joys of parenthood; became settled, happy and content in his life. Hank will always love his fiance and will always be with her in his own way to mind her. He had many passions in his life and held his family, sport, music and friends dear to his heart. He started playing sport from a young age starting out with his some side Ballinacor, playing Under-14 soccer with Avoca and senior soccer with Clash Rangers among others. His main positions for years was No. 1 goalkeeper as he will be fondly remembered by his team-mates. His final club was Newcastle GAA. His music and friends would normally come to hand in hand. He made a lasting impression on all of his friends. His younger pals can speak of how when they were in the wrong Hank tried to steer them onto the right path. He gave them someone to look up to an equal with, for which he was very much respected for. He was also a hard worker, working at a young age with his father and older brother in the forestry. Many of the people and companies he worked for are left with some great memories from his time there. His family know he was loved, liked, respected and well-known by the crowds of people who turned up for his funeral and burial. It was a testimony to his popularity and will always be remembered by his family. As a grandson, nephew, brother-in-law and son-in-law Hank will always hold a special place in their hearts and will never be forgotten. He has left fond memories with the people whose hearts he touched and filled the most with joy. He enjoyed his life to the fullest of its potential, was happy and always liked to think of himself as a joker and wise-ass. Hank had his own way will always be alive in our hearts and with us forever until we meet him again. All the love we have is your Hank, now and forever - Your family.
