The late Andy O'Neill News of the sudden and unexpected death of Andrew (Andy) O'Neill from Ballymorris, Aughrim has been greeted with great regret over a wide area. Andy, who was aged 77, was an energetic and happy worker on his farm up to his passing. He will be remembered as keen sportsman, who was a fine footballer in his day with the Annacurra club. He was a member of the club's Intermediate team of 1953. Later, he ran the juvenile section as well as filling the position of chairman of Annacurra. He also served a stint as chairman of the South Board. His interests extended far beyond the GAA as he was a former chairman of the Fianna Fail cumann in Annacurra. He appeared on stage with the local drama society. He was renowned in agricultural circles for his expert knowledge of sheep. Andy's prime loyalty was to his wife and family. He was a good neighbour and devout in his religious duties. Sunday's funeral Mass was celebrated at the Church of the Sacred Heart with burial afterwards in Anna curra cemetery. The graveside oration on the life of the deceased was delivered to a large number of mourners by Jimmy Dune. Andy O'Neill is survived by his wife May, his sons Sean, Kevin and Cathal; daughters Rosaleen and Madeline; brothers Terry, Jimmy and Paddy, sister Sarah and his extended family.
