O'Neill, Sean

June 30, 2005
The Late Sean O'Neill Sean O'Neill from Parknashaw, Annacurra who died recently at the young age of 50. was an accomplished sportsman as well as being well known in the business life of South Wicklow. Football and golf were two of his greatest passions in sport while in the business world he was a much respected member of the management team of the engineering firm LMH in Arklow. He was aged just 50 when he died on April 17 after long illness borne with great dignity and courage and his passing is mourned throughout South Wicklow but most keenly felt by his devoted family who were his pride and joy. A native of Kerry he was born in Caherciveen in November 1954 and played football with Renard at all grades and also with Caherciveen CBS with whom he won a Munster Colleges U15 junior championship medal in 1970. He was left back on the Renard Foilmore team that won the South Kerry Senior championship in 1974 and he also played for South Kerry senior football team. Besides football he was also a keen athlete. Having spent a short time in London, Sean O'Neill joined the firm of LMH in Arklow after he returned to Ireland in 1974. He was the firm's first full time office assistant and progressed rapidly through the ranks to project management. In 1981 he was appointed a director of LMH and over the next 20 years became an equal partner, and 50 percent shareholder in the company. His passion for football also benefited the Annacurra Club. Although taking up the game of golf later than most, he quickly mastered this sport also, achieving a handicap of nine. He was a member of Arklow Golf club and Woodenbridge Hotel Society and in 2003 he won the captain's prize and golfer of the year at Arklow. Above all else Sean O'Neill was a family man and the love and care he gave them was generously reciprocated. The huge attendance at his funeral was evidence of the high esteem and respect in which he and his family are held in the community. Mourned by his many relatives and friends, he will be especially sadly missed by his wife Shirley, daughters Kelly (Ward) and Eileen, son Mark, son-in-law Aidan, Vernica, father Eugene, brothers, sisters and work colleagues.
