Fergal Ógs Club Notes
With the season fast approaching, both of our adult teams are looking to strengthen their respective squads further, so if you wish to play mens football/hurling get in touch with us through Facebook, or through the club secretary @ 0871711847.
Ballywaltrim Park was closed for the weekend because of the state of the pitch, but luckily enough, St. Kilians C.S 1st year football team managed to play their fixture against Arklow C.C on Friday afternoon, just before the closure announcement was made.
A soft pitch and long grass, with some heavy rain thrown into the mix made for a scrappy war of attrition between the two sides. St. Kilians started well with an early brace of goals, playing up the hill. They could have furthered their scoring tally and brought the game out of Arklows reach in the first half, if crucial point scoring opportunities were taken, but the missed chances meant the game was still up in the air at halftime with the Bray side leading 2-0 to 0-2. In the 2nd half, St.Kilians were playing down the hill and created further chances to close out the game. Further goals followed and a couple of well taken points from frees made the task of mounting a comeback too big a challenge for Arklow. By the sounding of the final whistle the score was St. Kilians C.S 5-2 Arklow C.C 0-3. Well done to all the lads and to Mr. Donoghue who managed the side.
The club registration night will take place on Wed 10th from 7.30-9.00pm in St. Fergals school. If you or your child wishes to play for the club in 2016, its important that you attend. Non registered players will not be allowed to play.
All juvenile training will recommence after the registration night, when we have contact details etc for all of the members. Training times are to still to be confirmed.
Adult and juvenile fixtures have yet to be confirmed, when they are, they'll be forwarded on to all coaches.
We are looking for club members to participate in foundation level coaching courses and and an upcoming Code of Ethics course on Feb 29th in Kilcoole. All mentors must have a foundation course and code of ethics certificate to coach children in the club. If you wish to apply for either, contact club secretary Éamonn McKenna @ 0871711847 or through the clubs Facebook page and he'll forward your details on to our Coaching/Games Dev. Officer Gary Murphy and our Children's Officer Jamie McDonagh.
We must give a big Go raibh maith agat to SuperValu Bray, who have kindly donated equipment to the club. We received an abundance of footballs, bagpacks, ball bags, bibs, cones, botttseachtainttle carriers. It will all be put to good use in 2016. Many thanks also to our treasurer Alison Treacy who organised the fundraiser.
Our National Draw tickets are still on sale, but the deadline for submissions is fast approaching. Each ticket costs €10 with the top prize being a brand new Opel Corsa. Contact the club secretary if you wish to buy one.
Our club table quiz will be taking place in Chrissy D's lounge on Thursday March 3rd @ 8.00pm. Cost: €40 per team. A maximum of four participants can be on a team, but less than four can participate once the €40 fee is covered. We are still on the look out for prizes, so if you are able to donate something, please let us know.
