Rathnew GAA Notes

November 30, 2015

Our Senior team captured our there second title this year winning the Renault senior league Division 1, Capt. Nicky Mernagh praised the lads and managers for the session they had, "we started in March and had some patchy weeks but knuckled down and had a fixed focus on the league and championship, he praised the management team and a special thanks to the clubs committee, he finished with a congratulations to our Intermediate team who pulled off a Hugh win this year and to the sportsman ship of Tinahely for travelling to Rathnew due to pitch availability,

The game started with two fantastic goal chances by Rathnew which were squandered. The game was played in a fast pace end to end and in a very sporting manner with referee Damien Byrne hardly having to blow the whistle. Tinahely raced into a 1-3 to 2 p lead but it seemed Rathnew were not out of it at any stage. Stand in Goal keeper Johnny Byrne could do nothing about the rocket of a goal place at power in the left corner.

Damien Power and Paul Merrigan started to get to grips and went on to dominate the oppositions forwards, Young Ross O Brien carved up the opposition every time he attacked and ended up with a personal talk of 3 pints from play all at range, Jamie and warren were having solid games

Stafford continued to do what he does best and once the ball was in his area he won it and attacked, he made fantastic use of the ball which resulted in several scores from his hard work, he has shown he is by far the best midfielder in Co Wicklow by a long shot he is one of those players who has it all, Fielding, distribution and a score getter. His partner Adam also had a work like performance

Leighten had a high level performance striking at the defence hard and regular at pace and skill; Jody scored 3 fantastic pints from corner forward and won some excellent ball setting up many score. Eddie, Enan caused Tinahely defence serious trouble and rathnew ran out easy winners. The visitors were entertained in the Local Rathnew house that provided foot and crack. Rumours are this morning one or two are still in the Village so if you can contact home for some fresh clothes that would be good
