The Miley Cup goes to the winners of the Wicklow SFC

Clubs in Wicklow are up in arms over a change to the format of the SFC that would see two of them relegated after just two matches.

In the past, the Keating Cup was used to determine which top-flight clubs would be demoted but this competition has now been abolished and a new system was brought in at the last County Board meeting, which could see two clubs relegated after just two hours of senior action.

The clubs affected - Coolkenno, Tinahely, Avondale, Bray Emmets, Newtown and Aughrim - are furious and one club representative has suggested that this year's SFC could be cancelled if the County Board doesn't sit down with them and thrash out an agreement.

"We've sent letters to the County Board asking for a meeting," Coolkenno's Ned Rossiter told The Wicklow People. "We sent one two weeks ago and a second one last week and we've got no confirmation or reply.

"Maybe this senior football championship will be null and void. Maybe it will come to that if a solution can't be found."
