Minor Boys

Our minor team had their second outing in the Minor County League on Wednesday the 13th of May away to Rathnew on a near perfect evening for football and although short of a couple of the squad on the night we still had 18 players to choose from which is a great sign for the club for the years ahead. The game itself started brightly with both sides intent on playing attacking football with the ball moving from end to end as each side looked to put some early scores on the board. Some of our football was excellent with the ball moving from defence to attack through a number of hands and then culminating in a nicely taken score. An Tochar were having the better of the exchanges for long periods of time but failed to take all their scoring chances and as the half wore on Rathnew came back and went into the break a point ahead. The second half started with Rathnew the stronger team and they won the battles around the middle of the park with either some fine fielding or just cleaning up the breaks and this gave them a great platform to stretch their lead which they did with a couple of fine goals. Our lads upped their game a level after this and tried hard to get a foothold back in the game but we dropped too many kicks into the Rathnew keepers hands and ultimately found the going tough in the 10 minutes of the game. We managed to put on another couple of scores but ultimately couldn't find a way to overtake the Rathnew lead and Rathnew ran out winners on score line of 5-7 to 2-10. Overall it was a good outing and another game under our belt which will stand us in good stead as the season progresses.  It is very important for us now to kick on from here and to get numbers at training so we can make a serious effort at the championship come summer time.  Some notable performances on the night for An Tochar from Shane Healy, Mark Keenan, Shane Keenan, David Molloy and Mikey Fanning.

Scorers on the night:Mikey Fanning 1-02; Shane Healy 0-3; Cian Brady 0-3; Martin Gaffney 0-1; Mark Keenan 0-1; Shane Keenan 1-0.
