Blessington GAA Club Notes

Wicklow GAA Awards 2015 - Congratulations to 3 of our club members who won awards which was announced at the Wicklow GAA Convention on Sat 13 December 2015.They will officially receive their awards at the Wicklow GAA Awards 2015 next Sat 24 Jan in the Arklow Bay Hotel. Junior A Footballer - Barry O'Donovan, Junior C Footballer - Michéal O'Leary and Club Person of the Year - Mick Curran.

 

Dinner Dance - The Blessington GAA Dinner Dance will be held in Tulfarris on Friday 30 Jan 2015. Music by Panic Animal followed by DJ till late. Tickets for 3 course meal will be €30 each. Tulfarris are offering a special deal for B &B on the night. Doors open at 7.30pm with Dinner at 8pm. It promises to be a great night. Club 7's - Club 7s started on Sun at 6pm at the Astro. There are 4 teams managed by Eoin Phibbs (Blue Lights), Brendan McGarr Snr (Wind Power), Paul Breen (The Figures) and Darren Behan (Hardcore). All teams had 2 wins except for the Blue Lights who had two losses. The fun continues next Sun at 6pm.

 

AGM - Club AGM tomorrow night at 8pm in the Avon Ri. The club will reflect on the great year had by all our teams and look forward to 2015. It is important that all members make an effort to attend. We also welcome new members that might be new to our town. Membership can be paid on the night as this makes things a lot easier than calling door to door.

 

Wicklow U21's - Hard luck to Wicklow U21s who were beaten in the Hastings Cup in Ballina on Sat 17 Jan on a scoreline of Mayo 0-11 Wicklow 0-9. A good performance and a lot of positives. The lads now continue to prepare for championship on Feb 25th away to Longford. The club was represented by Jonathan Daniels (manager), David Boothman, Barry Finan, Thomas Donohoe, Jordan Nolan, Patrick O Connor & Mikey O Connor (Injured).

 

Juvenile Notes:

 

U14 football training - Training will commence in the Community College on Wed 4 Feb at 7.15pm. Players are asked to be there at 7pm. The Feile Committee will meet in the Club house this Thurs 22 Jan at 8.30pm. The Feile Peil na nOg will be hosted in South Leinster (Wexford, Wicklow and Carlow) this year. There will be 80 boys host teams and 44 girls host teams. It is going to be the biggest Feile ever. Blessington are hosting a boys and girls team and the Feile will take place on the weekend of 26 - 28 June. We will know what teams we will be hosting in early April. The club is looking for one or two major sponsors for the event. Any business interested in sponsoring any part of the Feile please contact Martin Shannon. This is a great opportunity for the community to come together and show off our town.

 

Hurling - Age 6, 7 and 8 will train on Wed 6pm to 7pm in the Community College commencing 4 Feb. The U9.

, 10 and 11 hurlers will train on either Mon or Tues in Feb. (tbc).

Lotto: Our Club Lotto draw on was held on Tues 13 Jan. There was no jackpot winner of €9,200.  The numbers were 6,18,20 and 21. 6 winners of match 3 numbers - Lisa Charles, Trevor O'Donnell x 2 (Stephen had 2 lots of 3 numbers), Maire Tracey, Marion Carty and Francis Sargent. Each receives €50. Next draw in Murphy's on Tues 27 Jan. Tickets to be returned by 9.30pm as draw will take place at 10pm during the winter months.     We have 30 rain jackets with the Blessington GAA logo available in various sizes €15 each. Age 3-4 (2), Age 5-6 (4), Age 7-8 (4), 9-10 (5), 11-12 (5), Size 32 (4) and Size 34 (6). Contact Noreen 0872858375.
