Blessington GAA Club Notes

October 20, 2014

Senior Notes:

Senior - Another great week for the club! After their brilliant Championship win last Saturday, our Junior A's travelled to Tinahely to play Ballymanus in their final league game of the year. A win for either team would see promotion to the senior league. After a fantastic 1st half display, Blessington led at half time 0-09 to 0-01. In the second half Ballymanus came out and tried time and time again to break down the Blessington charge, however Blessington held their bottle and ran out worthy winners 0-12 to 0-09. They are now promoted to Div 1A. Well done on a fantastic year lads and best of luck in the Intermediate Championship and Senior league next year! Best wishes to Eoin Devlin who was injured in the game. Our Seniors were narrowly beaten by St. Mary's of Saggart last Tuesday night in a challenge game as they prepare for the Dunne Cup in the coming weeks.

Ladies - The ladies/girls section of the club are having a meeting for all involved in ladies football that includes management/parents/senior players and G4M and Others and any other interested parties to see where we can improve gaelic for girls/ladies in club and what are our plans for the coming year. This meeting is on Thur  23rd of Oct at 7.30pm in the club house.

Gaelic For mothers and others (G4M&O)

Blessington Gaelic for Mothers and others travelled to Portmarnock for the all-Ireland Blitz on Sat 18th Oct.  They played 5 games in nice but windy weather playing games against Bryansford (Down), St. Patricks (Tipperary), Oran (Roscommon), St. Conleths (Laois) and Foxrock (Dublin). The girls had some fantastic displays with 3 wins, a draw and 1 loss and really did themselves proud. The team  Barbara Nolan, Karen Magee, Helen Teague, Pauline Conroy, Tara Richardson, Denise O'Connell, Aislinn O'Toole, Cyndi Tivnan, Michelle Richardson, Sinead Johnston, Claire McMahon, Liz Slattery and Brid Murphy. The score of the day in all games had to be from Sinead Johnston - a cracking strikers goal into the top of the net. A real team performance with some fantastic support play and distribution. Well done to all. Probably should have won  medal's for the  singing performances afterwards! Training for Gaelic for Mothers and Others continues through the winter on the Astro from 7 to 8pm. New players  always welcome,  no previous football experience required and is open to anybody over 18.

North Kildare League

U9 - Football - Blessington played Sallins U9's on Sat 18 Oct. Super display from the kids who fell just short at the end. Man of the Match display from Dylan Keogh who was everywhere all day with notable displays again from our two U8 subs and our U7 sub who will surely make a big impact next year. That's the last U9's match of the season and overall our guys played with great determination and tenacity and above all else demonstrated great sportsmanship throughout. They were a credit to their parents and to the club. Roll on 2015.

U10 - Football - Well done to the u10 footballers who beat Eadestown in a thrilling game by one point on Saturday afternoon. There were some great performances all around with Rory Cullen outstanding in defence, Marc Kehoe and Lukas Sarkauskas doing very well in mid field and Alex Punselie doing well in the forwards. The team are looking forward to their final match next weekend.

U11 - Football - On Sat 18 Oct, our U11's played their final match in the North Kildare League against Confey in Blessington.  Playing against a strong wind Blesso were behind at half time.  In the 2nd half the whole team put in another strong performance and went on to win 38 points to 17.   That makes 4 wins out of 5 in this league. With a couple of outstanding fixtures the final league position will not be known for a couple of weeks.  Well done to everyone.
