Wicklow Camogie's Busy Saturday....

July 23, 2014
It has been some time, if ever, since Wicklow Camogie players fielded at 2 inter county venues at the same time. This happened at the week-end when the Under 14 Development Squad participated in the Blitz hosted by Carlow in their new GAA Centre of Excellence in Fenagh and the Under 16s played Meath in the All-Ireland 'C' Championship in Rathmolyon, Co Meath.
25 U14 girls played against Laois & Carlow and in their Final took on neighbours Kildare. This proved to be a very exciting match which ended all square.
The players involved were: Hannah Bevan, Chloe Longmore, Molly McCormack, Liadain Ni Dhunai, Olivia Duffy, Tricia Phelan, Sara Davis, Caitlin O'Toole, Shannagh Goetelen, Holly Eve Cullen Dunne, Aimee Maher, Sheenagh Byrne, Aoife O'Brien, Sandra Byrne, Megan Longmore, Mia O'Connor, Aoife Byrne, Lynn Fenton, Amy Byrne, Orla Kealy, Lillie May Cullen Dunne, Roisin Byrne, Hetty Messitt, Katie O'Byrne and Emma Doyle.
Training continues for this group on Thursday evenings in the GAA Centre of Excellence in Ballinakill at 7 pm. Their next Blitz will be hosted by Wicklow in Carnew on August 9th.
The Under 16s have now completed their Leinster League and All-Ireland Championship campaigns. This week's match against Meath was their last fixture. These girls must be complimented on seeing this challenge to the end as none had played at this level before. It was a big learning experience for all and they are already looking forward to next season to continue what they have begun. Their experience has been building in every game and they put in a impressive performance in this match, played in warm and humid conditions on a super pitch. The full-time score was Meath 6-5 Wicklow 3-6.
29 girls have played since the first match back in February and the 17 who played on Saturday were: Megan Kennedy, Ava Condon, Ailbhe Dowling, Sinead Roche, Tanya Carter, Holly Martin, Ellen Doyle, Emily O'Dowd, Aoibheann O Neill, Ciara Kelly, Erynn O'Brien, Jessica Driver, Laura O'Keeffe, Emma Davis, Leanne Hannon, Holly Campbell Fogarty and Aoife Weir.
Thanks to everybody who has helped get these girls to where they are today including their supportive parents and club coaches/mentors who have nurtured their talent over the years.
The under 15 Development Squad will get together in early August and train until their All-Ireland Blitz on October 2nd.
