Doyle, Murt

July 31, 2013
The sad passing of Murt Doyle of Rathnew at the weekend broke the first link in the chain of that great Wicklow Junior team of 1969. Murt was at full forward on the team that beat Meath in the Leinster Final in Croke Park that year.
They went on to beat Galway in the All-Ireland semi-final before beating Kerry, again at Croke Park in the home final. Murt slipped away peacefully after a long illness on Thursday. A large crowd, which included many playing colleagues from club and county turned up for his funeral mass in Rathnew on Saturday. Former TD and Minister Joe Jacob paid a warm tribute to his former playing colleague from the altar.
The Rathnew club provided a guard of honour for a former Chairman and lifelong member while officers of the County Board were also in attendance. He was buried with kit and kin in his native Rathnew Cemetery.
Our sympathy to his wife Phillis, son Joe and extended family.
