London V Galway.

(Oldest Posts First)

Hi. I'm heading to Ruislip in the summer for the London Galway game. Just wondering where is the best place/area to stay in? Where will all the GAA fand be staying? Is they're much to do (pubs/craic) in Ruislip or are we better off staying somewhere else? Thanks

No need to stay out near Ruislip, just head out there for the match, there will be plenty of entertainment on there the day of the match, but apart from that not much out there. Usually a big crowd goes to the Claddagh in Hendon the night of the match. Galway Supporters/Association may possibly organise something the night before the match.

So would it be an idea to stay in Hendon then? Would there be much there for a few nights?

a lot of people will probably look at staying in the Crown Moran in Cricklewood.

Any social events arranged around this? Claddagh ring has something on Saturday night. Not sure about anything else

Very quite here in advance of London v Galway. Hard to see anything other than a Galway win but London are certainly preparing as well as they can and are proving difficult opponents albeit in div 4 of the league.
Big occasion as always for Galway exiles and even Gaels in London generally. The young crowd might be more connected to home than in the past but these days were always the highlight of a emigrant's year. A good excuse for a blowout.
What Galway pubs are still going well?... Ambrose Gordons? Frostys? Lucky 7?

Fair play to London for giving a top 6 side such a good game this afternoon. London would have learnt more about themselves in that game today that they would in 100 tier 2 championship games.

A busy day in Ruislip, upwards of 7000 there which is as many as it could take. The Clubhouse must have been the busiest pub in London Sunday with the queue 5 deep all day even while the match was on with upwards of 20 bar staff in the 3 bars. Huge Galway crowd with those living in London and those who made the trip. Many younger first generation Irish there also.
Ruislip not bad getting to via cab but trying to get out of there afterwards not easy , ended up walking to South Ruislip tube 20 minutes away before a series of rail journeys . All in all a great day out. London should play in the other provinces in particular to give the likes of Donegal & Kerry diaspora an outing who have such big presences in London.
