Kieran Donaghy has dismissed the theory that a 'Kerry mafia' tried to block David Gough's appointment as All-Ireland football final referee.
Many in the Kingdom, including former manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice and ex-player Aidan O'Mahony, have raised concerns about the Meath native taking charge of a game that involves his adopted county of Dublin.
"Kerry's fans are fans and at the end of the day if this was a lad that was working in Killarney but from Limerick, and he refereed Dublin in 2016 and Kerry won that day, and now he was getting this final, you can be damn sure this is coming the same direction from Dublin," the former Kerry full forward said on Newstalk's Off The Ball.
"For anyone to suggest this was a Kerry thing, and turning this into the 'Kerry mafia', is absolute bullshit."
