Offaly game. Who hurled well for Tipp?

(Oldest Posts First)

I know it was a bit of a pointless game but could anyone who was at the game let us know who played well.
Particularly how did Heffernan, Brennan and Egan look?

I was'nt at the game but heard Kerwick , Callinan & Kelly. Good to see Kerwick back.Hopefully Kelly will be fit for the Championship v Cork.

Heffernan did ok still a bit light for intercounty they played him wing forward think he'd be better in the corner. Egan did ok he's a good option as a sub has the skill and lost a bit of weight but still lacks the speed. Callinan had a bad game in my opinion couple of flashes of skill but needs to step up his game, Unfortunatly Brennan didn't do much. Kerwick came on for 20 minutes and slotted a couple of points so good to have him back. Man of the match for me was Young at wing back won loads of ball. Gleeson did well in goals 1 top class save and bar 1 or 2 puck outs was very accurate. McGrath and kelly played well but on the whole a bad preformance by tipp. Was a strong back line but the didn't play up to championship standard. The whole team went to sleep as soon as kelly went off.

Cheers Hag. Always felt Egan had the skill, just the fitness let him down. Although i was very impressed with the way he robbed the ball of Tom Kenny at the end of the cork game. Kenny being one of the fastest cork players.
Pity about Brennan, he probably wont get much action during the championship now. Bags of pace. Heffernan has potential. Hopefully they dont start relying on Kelly for leadership in the forwards as he's probably never too far away from an injury unfortunately.
Callinan really needs to become a ball winner. He's a tall lad he should be able to contest the ball in the air.
I actually think the best forward in the county not on the panel is John O'Dwyer and it wont be long before he's brought in.

To be honest i'd throw my hat at Egan, if a lad cant get himself fit to play for his county then he doesnt deserve to be there.

Great to have Kerwick back, reallys adds something with his speed. Callinan is a lovely hurler but likes to stand off and wait for a loose ball, i suppose he is still only 20 or 21 so he has to be given time, plus he is still carrying an injury. I think Hammersley will be a good option for the championship and may even push Noel McGrath for a start.

Shame about losing Paul Kelly, he has a level of class that is missing sometimes. Gearoid Ryan is a lovely hurler as well so hopefully he can recover from his broken finger before too long

Kilruane I agree with you about someone not being fit enough and Egan was rightly dropped earlier in the year but if he has gone away and worked on his fitness i think he deserves another chance. Sheedy has given him a chance now so its up to him to take it. We really lack a big forward who can hurl so if takes his chance he could do a job.

Hows Brian O Meara plyaing for McDonaghs these days? He's a strong fella and looks to have a decent amount of hurling from what I saw of the fitzgibbon.

Hurling out of his skin at the moment. Scored 0-16 vs Portroe in the league recently. 7 were frees, not so much the fact that he scored them, it was the way he scored them. None of them were easy chances, still a bit greedy but when he's knocking over points from impossible angles you'll forgive him that!

Will Sheedy call up O'Meara or he is training with the panel already???? I have never seen him play at any level so dont know much about the lad.

Brian did a few training sessions with them there recently, dont think he's on the panel as of yet but that performance against Portroe, which Sheedy was surely at, wont have done him any harm. I think Ken Hogan might have a meltdown if he loses another of his 21's to the Senior Panel!

kilruane:

I think Michael Heffernan would be better off staying with the u21's don't think he's quite ready for the seniors yet.... some young players can cut others need time neol macgrath didn't need time but an example of a player that could do it was Pa bourke he'd have been better off concentrating on the u21's for a few years.
