Qualifiers Round 1

Where is Owenbeg?

It's just outside Dungiven. Run by the county board as a centre of excellence. Never used for this level of competition before. A strange choice of venue especially since Sligo fans will drive past Celtic Park on their way to the game. Kind of negates the home advantage that Celtic Park would have given.

Most Derry fans will not complain however.

It is not 30 minutes further .(possibly 5 no more than 10) . You do not drive past Celtic park. It is not near Antrim.
It is being used because due to the pheile commitments Celtic park is not available.
There is no conspiracy it is just the vagaries of last minute arrangements.

2 hrs 14 mins Sligo Town to Dungiven - according to Google maps, which does not indeed mean driving through Derry City (and past Celtic park). My bad.

With the noice about the venue, it will take the pressure off Walsh and the team and allow them to prepare without been the focus of scrutiny

oakgael, never mind Jack L, he's a rossie that goes onto every other county's forum and posts incredible stuff just to get a rise and reaction. Coming off the back of the ruislip defeat, for Sligo to go to Celtic Park and get a result, it would be one hell of a turnaround, but hope springs eternal

He's no rossie just one of hoganstands biggest and longest trolls.

It is just a little over 2 hours and if you go to Derry city you should not be allowed out on your own, Visit google maps and get directions to Foreglen, you do not even have to go to Dungiven. It is as I said less than a further 10 minutes and if you add to that not having to find your way in and out of Derry city and the more adequate parking you are probably on the right side of the clock. So quit whinging and come on up and you will be made more than welcome. Good luck to Sligo but not too much.

London's performance yesterday would suggest that Sligo's defeat in London was not quite as big a shock. Ruislip is a difficult place to go to and London done well in Carrick yesterday.

Derry haven't won a Championship game in over 2 years. I think Sligo should be favourites this weekend.

MourneArmy: while i wish it was true, i think you must have befriended farmer2 and JackL. Sligo havent a hope this weekend. we scored 4 points in 70 mins against kildare last year in the qualifiers. If we do better than that against derry, it will be a bonus!

No body gave us a hope at the weekend v Donegal. Fair enough we didn't win, but we gave the Ulster and All-Ireland champions a run for their money. We were 5/1 outsiders, like yourselves. You just never know.

MourneArmy thank you for the vote of confidence but comparing Sligo to Down is just inconceivable!

I think that Sligo will have something to prove after the London match. KW has a thing or two to prove after the EOH criticism

I am presuming that the complete absence of any posts regarding this thread means that nobody is giving us any hope against Derry on Sunday. I think I will still travel even though the throw-in time is rediculous. It's so late, they might not even have highlights (if there are any) ready for the Sunday Game!

1. Philip Greene

2. Charlie Harrison

3. Ross Donovan

4. Neil Ewing
5. Keelan Cawley

6. Adrian McIntyre

7. Mark Quinn

8. James Kilcullen

9. Stephen Gilmartin

10. Shane McManus

11. Pat Hughes

12. Brendan Egan

13. Mark Breheny

14. Adrian Marren

15. Francis Quinn

Why isn't niall Murphy starting? Good to see kilcullen is fit but this team is not what I would've liked. Surely it was time for a revamp.

Please God let KW do the noble thing and step down. We may not have the players and talent to compete at the top level but the players deserve to have a MANAGER and LEADER. Without that we are nothing.

Garavogue (Sligo) - Posts: 95 - 30/06/2013 18:54:02    1419360

Surely Eamon O Hara will now take over the team and do a fine job that Kevin Walsh couldnt do with a bunch of very ordinary players who are away off the pace. Time for yer county to realise the standard yer at and get used of these results!

Honour restored for the Yeats county today. London are in the Connaught final so perhaps people are not giving them the credit they deserve

Jack L wouldn't agree with that. Leitrim were authors of their own defeat. Dropping 4 lads 3 of whom would be starters. When Mulligan and Sweeney went off injured their bench wasn't strong enough to make an impact.
