Dunganny and Pairc Tailteann

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

So Meath County Board Chairman Conor Tormey reckons that Dunganny will be completed by October, it's only talk but that looks promising. The sooner Dunganny is finished with the sooner PT redevelopment 'plans' can start, I say 'plans' because what money will be left after Dunganny is finished! So as a matter of interest when do my fellow Royals actually see PT redevelopment starting or do you's even see Dunganny being finished at all this year? anybody have any insight that the rest of us don't?

Ps, also nice to know that we're going to win Sam this year, it's been far too long already, cheers Tormey :-)

I'd imagine it would be difficult to get the work in Dunganny finished by October again planning permission is got and the work goes out to tender. However my knowledge of building is even less than my knowledge of figure skating so I could be wrong.
If it's completed by the end of the year I think that would be very acceptable at this stage.
It's very positive to hear Conor Tormey speak like this though.

I have no idea what size of building is planned for Dunganny but from what limited knowledge I have of construction I don't think a decent sized building should take too long. If planning was granted relatively quickly then I'd say it could be finished by the end of the year, of course if the run out of money or something stupid like that then it'll run well into next year and possibly longer.

The plan is for a modern style building , and due to the nature of its use , gym, dressing rooms , canteen it will probably be mostly block work , no need for plastered walls . I would assume a lot of the site might be pre prepared when the pitches went in- possibly not ,but again four weeks ground work would do a lot . I'm sure the costing has been done already and as we now know , this cb seem to be on top of things and I'd say the contractors have already got submissions at the ready .lets wait a see next step planning permission and hopefully then the diggers at dunganny

The planning is got now for both Pairc Tailteann and Dunganny. the Meath County Board can sit back and show their "progress". If they were eager they would have commenced site works as soon as possible with tenders coming through to carry out the works.

Planning Permission is one of the best delay tactics going. Dont be silly guys

I wonder will Meath get much use out of the new National Sports Campus. It's ideally located. What do you think?

Castle bravo - they won't , just another "dublin" project under the guise of Gaa Hq as a central communal base

Great news for St Brigids anyway.

O'Neill has mentioned Meath specifically as a county that will benefit from it. I say milk it for all its worth if it doesn't cost us a dime.

I think financial constraints might have something to do with that in fairness, unless you are aware of a few million in the county board coffers that the rest of us aren't

If financial constraints are so tight then why apply for planning permission ???

Everyone knows how bad the books were with the county board..

My point is; the planning permission means nothing towards actual development

Because you must have planning and planning permission in place before you can apply for provincial and central council funding. The current county board are just starting their second year and have done more regarding infrastructure in that time than anyone in the last 5 years. The existing planning permission will most likely have to be altered anyway as the northern terrace wasn't mentioned in it as far as I know

So you are saying that the Meath County Board must apply for/ have planning permission in place to recieve funding from central council?

.........but what.....they then must amend the plans on which they have recieved said specific funding for..? Therefore gaining central council funding on false pretenses?

My point exactly on the county board, I said we all know how bad the books were..this county board is making changes but nothing physical has beem done as of yet to warrant congratulations..when facilities are complete at Dunganny and when i am in a better stand in P.T then I will be greatful for works actually done

(Btw its not possible to amend an already granted planning permission,, must re-apply with reference to previous application thus making it a new planning application no matter how major or minor the changes are)

Well first stage of the Dunganny redevelopment has got the go ahead.

I see Cork GAA got a 30M grant to redo their stadium and they plan on using it for the Rugby World Cup. Would it be an idea to try and redevelop pairc tailteann and seek a 5-10 million grant if it was to be used as a rugby world cup venue? There's an opportunity there to be taken.

The stadium's for Irelands potential world cup bid have already been selected. The Gaa stadiums along with Pairc Ui Coimh include Semple Stadium, Fitzgerald Stadium, Limerick, McHale in Castlebar and Casement..these bids run in line with tourism value as well as adequacy and capacity.

GAA HQ appear intent on ignoring the situation in Pairc Tailteann. Dunganny has beem a financial disaster so the sooner it is completed the sooner an excuse be made for money regarding Pairc Tailteann

Need good infrastructure to help improve our teams and move them to compete with Dubs. Once we become competitive again it will help makes GAA the sport of choice in the co for the 15/16 yr olds opting out

Meath are competitive now.

Dublin are going to be All Ireland contenders for the next number of years.

I can see Meath being #2 in Leinster for the next few years.

Meath appear to be 10-15 years behind infrastructurally neglected stadium and "centre" of excellence. 2015 will be 20 years since Meath hosted a Leinster clash.

A disrespectful disgrace in my opinion
