Mayo - Clare

Good result! Hopefully use the running game of the second half as a template for the future!!

Great result we're still in the mix which is the main thing! I am confused as to the approach though. Shrunk back and let Clare run right through us in the 1st half and allowed Clare to drag our half back line out of position similar to what Galway did. If we're in the top three teams should we not be dictating the game a bit more against weaker opposition like we did in the second half?????
Delighted with the win just puzzled!

While I've always been a huge fan of Alan Dillon, the classiest player Mayo had from 04 to 14, I couldn't for the life of me understand why he and not a younger player was brought on late yesterday. If he's still in the pecking order it says a lot about him and equally something about the young options and the management's faith in them. The game was won at that stage and maybe it was simply a reward for Alan's persistence which was understood by all. Not sure...

We can meet Galway in 1/4 final but not in the next qualifier. If Galway beat Ros then we play Cork in 2 weeks time. If Roscommon win we could play them or Cork.

Well done yesterday Mayo lads ye used ye'r experience and ye'r skill to topple a sticky Clare team.

Ye got a great draw now for round 4 against Cork, ye will beat them handily enough after today so we more than likely will meet ye in the quarterfinal.

Where will ye play cork? Will it be limerick or will they play it in crokepark? Cork would get no support in crokepark.

Cusack Park Ennis would be a perfect venue for Cork v Mayo, it's halfway between the 2 counties and is only 10 mins from the motorway, ok traffic problems in Tuam and Claregalway but I found it easy enough to park and leave the town after the game, Limerick is a no no, if the GAA choose that Limerick they would be as well off to play the game in Cork, talking to some people in Belmullet area it takes them 3 hours to get to Ennis without heavy traffic, how many in Cork are that far from Ennis

I suppose it'll depend on what they expect the crowd to be either large or small, what can Ennis hold 15 maybe 16 thousand? Mayo would bring that many supporters themselves I'd Cork will have 2/3 thousand so it might be limerick if that's the case.

Jays it's gas the way the GAA have concerts in crokepark in the middle of the summer when it's our busiest time of year.

Would thurles be far from ye in Mayo?

Yes and terrible roads to it. No eay will we be playing there. Ennis was deemed neutral for Mayo v Cork u-21 ties in the recent past so my money is on another visit to Ennis.

Thurles is a no-go, far too far way even from South Mayo to be equidistant to Cork, let alone for fellas coming up from Belmullet, Ballina, Charlestown etc.

Much improved second half performance the last day, but by God, was the first half shocking! Had Clare taken their goal chances we would have been in huge trouble, and it's clear that opponents are targeting the massive holes up the centre of the Mayo defence.

You'd say that we should beat Cork based on the last few years of championship form, but a good start is a necessity. I don't know whether it's to do with the warm-up, attitude or whatever, but there must be some explanation for our worrying trait of settling into games 15 minutes after the opposition. It's happened too often over the last couple of seasons to be coincidence IMO.

Great display from AOS though, he really stood up during the sticky patch, as did K Mc and Andy.

Game is a home fixture for Cork, it's in Limerick, less than an hour journey for them, 4 hours for us, well done GAA

Riverboys Most of the football in cork is played down in west cork bantry and adrigole and a few other places down there would 3/4 drive from limerick city .

Now in all fairness people from north cork and cork city would be no more than an hour or hour and a half from limerick so I see your point and cork supporters won't travel in big numbers whereas ye lads in Mayo will.

As we all know Mayo doesn't start and end along the Galway border, 4 hours from north Mayo to Limerick, just to add it's 65 miles from Limerick to Cork, it's 65 miles from Limerick to Galway, it is 140 miles from Sligo to Limerick and Sligo would roughly be along the same line as Ballina and Belmullet, can't see how Limerick and not Ennis is classed as halfway, by the GAA standard the game should be played in Pairc Ui Chaoimh in Cork

Clare would not fit the crowd expectancy = Mayo people giving out about not getting tickets to the game.

Limerick will hold the Crowd and its the only option as Croke Park has a concert.

People giving out either way

Once again the Galway lads are more interested in whats going on in Mayo...its quiet intriguing really. Its the Mayo lads in Rosscommon they should have been bothered about.

And yes from Belmullet or Achill to Caherdavin is 4 hours.
