Transfers

(Oldest Posts First)

I was looking at the Meath forum lastnight and came across them discussing Club transfers...I'm just wondering the are not really common place here are the? But when Leitrim Village broke away from St Marys could there players decide who the wanted to play for? Also any clubs get any new faces this year or lose players to any other Club? I remember Padraig Tighe is playing for Mohill now and I think hes from Galway?

Id say from 2008-13 this thread would be a couple of hundred pages long

Everyone is gone all that's left is the handful of civil servants and farmers sons

As for incoming transfers maybe 1 into leitrim per year

Again from civil servants gaurds teachers etc thats about it

for once in my life i agree with 94- 2 hrs each way is a vicious commute for training and matches every week.
For county maybe wen you may be entitled to expenses but for club games nope- diesel down the drain.
unless you have family you have to see every weekend thats different.. for young single men it is a big ask esp. those in college.

I see Niall Walsh has joined Glenfarne from Shannon Gaels in Cavan! I believe he played U21 football last year for Cavan..Will be a boost to Glenfarne and will take the pressure of Fergal Clancy perhaps?

Cant say I have ever seen a player to transfer and achieve much? Look at Seanie Johnson for example complete disaster. I have to say I completely disagree with intercounty transfers full stop. How will the likes of Leitrim ever progress when we have seen our best players leave in the past. Darcy after 94, mulligan left in 2013,Micheal foley left to kilcock about 2010, Colm o Rourke was a Leitrim man although left at a young age if we had a rule that you have to play for the county that you grew up in playing club how things would be different for us. I don't understand club transfers, I get if you move from one end of the country to the other and you are living there then yes its a tough decision but makes sense. But leaving a club you grew up with to go up the road a bit seems strange. It has happened a lot in Leitrim and Sligo the last few years. 1 club 1 county that's what I say

If your idea was a rule then Declan Darcy would never have played for leitrim in the first place? He was born and bred in Dublin but just had a Gra for leitrim. Transfers in clubs seem to be a more common place these days, arguments within clubs seem to cause splits and then a player just feels the need to keep playing football i suppose.

Wonder is there any hope he'd return to the Leitrim panel? He's badly needed.

Big blow for Manor with McGuire going, experience playing in Dublin will hopefully prove beneficial for the county team, we need lads like him back playing in the green and gold
