Do away with Hill 16 !?!

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

From reading the topic about the roof I'd be interested to see how many poeple want and dont want the hill in its current form.

I expect most dubs want it kept while a majority of others may like a uniform stadium.

I want it to stay just the way it is. No change.

They looked at that when they were redeveloping Croker 20 years ago and there was a difficulty in putting a stand in there with the railway right behind it. The Cost/history and logistical difficulties all meant that it stayed as a terrace.

Easy fix this build a new stand but with a standing area in the bottom tier and seats above. Continue the roof around and the job is done.

Nothing to stop you using the existing hill if people want to keep the stone because of historical reasons. Just put it the old concrete through a breaker and reuse it and everyone's happy.

it's not broke and doesn't need fixing, even if planning permission was cleared, which is unlikely to ever happen.

Would be great to see it finished the whole way around. But can it actually happen with the railway so close behind? Doubt there would be space for it??

What, and have patrons having to miss large parts of the match to go to a toilet. Away with you...

It's not just the railway, the houses directly behind on Clonliffe Road would be plunged into darkness, which is one of the major obstacles.

Yes it would it looks unfinished to me, regarding the railway just put it under ground is surely an option.

If you just believe.

That, and pay off all the householders on Clonliffe Road. Who pull out of the deal when they hear what Maureen in No. 163 got offered. Then Maureen pulls out because you had no right telling Paddy the details of her offer. So you offer Maureen more and she says no dice. etc. etc.

I love the hill but they should go with the times and make Croke Park all seater.

I think they should get rid of the Davin stand and make a Kerry only terrace.. Gooch hill maybe or Moran mound

It's a bit of an eyesore, especially the way it ends in the corner, and the stepped back wall. I love the hill and it gives croker a lot of character, keeping the terrace is a must, sure theyre more and more popular in the continental leagues, where everyone agrees they contribute disproportionately to the atmosphere. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, change it, cos it looks manky, but keep it as a terrace, with more or less the same spirit that it has. Fix the corner and the back wall, put some kind of roof on it

You could make the Hill a single all seater stand, make it a seated area and cover it at the height that it is at the moment and that would stop Croke Park neighbours from being plunged into darkness and it would make that part of the ground a safer place to be in. But the current GAA President stated on a national radio station 3 weeks ago 'we have no plans to touch Hill 16 with all the history and the dubs etc' that statement puts the deathnail on any idea of improving the area and making it all seated or a roof. I would love to know though what did he mean by 'and the dubs' we know the history of the ground and why it was called Hill 16 but what has 'the dubs' to do with safety, no disrespect to any county but 1 group of supporters cannot have a monopoly on the rest of the country, I know of a lot of Dublin supporters who swear they would never set foot in the Hill
