" just invite the parachute regiment in now as well . keep it up . "

Very silly comment. When where the paras in croker. My history lessons may be flwed but i thought it was the auxiliaries, cadets and the RIC (who did the most damage)

hill16no1man most people pointed out that they would like it to remain as a standing area but have the stadium roof the whole way around

I agree with hill16man.

The likes of Wembley are notorious for their lack of atmosphere especially when you consider the size of the crowd. The hill in Dublin matches in particular often gets the rest of the stadium going and even if they don't it still provides and good atmosphere and more importantly the option to stand for those who want and a cheaper ticket for those who can't afford a seat.

It's a very awkward spot with the houses but if I could wave a magic wand I'd have croker buy the houses behind knock them down and do the following.

Rebuild the hill similar to what it is except the it would get smaller as it goes to the Nally. It would be equally big on both sides.

And above it, if there's demand for more premium tickets build a premium section and an upper tier. If there's no demand for more premium just build a really big upper tier.

Yes I know it won't be perfectly even like the rest of the stadium so bless you if you've got OCD. but other stadiums like the millennium in Cardiff or the Santiago do the same.

So between a bigger terrace and the seats above you'd probably have close to 100k capacity. Yes I know it's not needed but it would mean 15k extra tickets for fans to attend all Ireland finals which would bring in an extra 2 million a year so over 40 years or so you'd pay off most of the costs. The stadium debt is already paid off so in reality it'd be paid off in a few years.

Good investment and the second biggest stadium in the world with a 20k terrace under a roof. Yes please!

If I was a billionaire I'd fund this myself and name it the jackgoff terrace and the above tier the "snuffy/crab claw" stand.

Pity the hill isn't the same height all the way across

If the seated areas are called stands, should the standing area not be called sits?

You lose atmosphere when you lose terracing. Keep Hill 16 at all costs. There are too many characterless stadia around the globe these days. We're unique in a good way by preserving Hill 16 but like a lot of other posters I agree a roof would be a brilliant idea.

The GAA won't change Hill 16 but if pressure is kept on to put a roof and make it a seated area they may change their mind over time but it could be at least 20 years before that happens

Good point about tickets for fans on all ireland day, but it is not enough to warrant an even bigger white elephant on dublins north side. It is mightily impressive as it is, but the reality is that it is only filled for semi finals involving the dubs, and 2 finals (hurling and football). The semis involving the dubs will probably be the next fixture to experience falling gates). We are busy building more insane developments such as pairc ui caoimh, so doing away with hill 16 would be more money down the drain. Bad idea all round.
