Mayo Unfair advantage??

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

2002 to present has seen Mayo as the only Connaught team to make the All-Ireland semi-finals. Has Mayo an unfair advantage?

No I'd say that, with respect, the rest were just not good enough, any what's the boast about being the only Connacht side to reach a semi final since 2002? I doubt too many Mayo fans are jumping up and down with pride over that statistic

How can you have an unfair advantage over anyone when you haven't won for 63 years?

ehhh ... are Kerry not seeded every year in the Munster Championship ?
so they don't meet cork until the final , guaranteeing them 1/4 place then ....Unfair ...I think you need to take another look at things there pal

I am wintering well thanks! ;)

I'm only asking the question. Regards hurling, Galway like Cork and Limerick is an urban county and can sustain both games. Kerry hurling is above the other Connaught counties. Hurling responsibility not being forgotten. Play-off with Offaly this year was a disgrace.

I would not get too worked up about Connaught football. Two football All Irelands in the last forty nine seasons!!. Munster Counties have won 23 titles in that period. In all fairness that all cannot be done to the nature of the draw.

Feck, you can tell by the quality of thread comoing out that we are in that netherworld between the end of the championship and the beginning of the league. I suppose I had better get used to it!

This thread is totally unfair to those from the Castlebar Region, Ballina Region and Swinford Region, not to mention those from the Knock Region, Westport Region and Foxford Region, and Im sure it will upset those from the Kilalla Region, Achill Region and Erris Region too!

Oldtourman you could also say 2 in 16 years. how many have limerick won in any code?

Kerry are a one sport football county in a hurling province.

Mayo are in a football dominated province- they have lost to galway, roscommon and sligo in the past 10 years. Kerry have not been beaten since 1992 by a county that is not cork in munster.

There's been two all Munster All-Ireland finals and a number of all Munster All-Ireland semi-finals since 2002.

Well they have won 9 All Ireland Senior titles, seven in hurling in a hurling province. As far as I Know Mayo with a similar population to Limerick have 3 All Irelands. After all there is practically no other code played in Mayo. Why if this easy access to All Ireland Semi Finals means so much are Galway hurlers still only sporting four All Irelands despite having a clear run in the West for 125 years. As regards other codes when the second last British Lions toured thee players which were drawn from an area with circa 65 million people of the 42 players selected 12 were from Ireland of which 5 were from Limerick, which has a population of just 180,000. Anyway Limerick were not referred to in this debate as it asks a question about unfairness to Mayo

Why do the Munster runners-up pose more of a threat than their Connaught and Leinster counterparts?

* Only Connaught team to make an All-Ireland semi-final since 2002.
* Only Division 1 team since Galway's relegation in 2011.
* 4 Connaught titles in-a-row.

Which county is likely to challenge Mayo's dominance in the province? Due to the lack of any division 1 opponent in their province, have Mayo been at an advantage? Kerry for example had to over come a division 1 opponent in the Munster final.

Don't worry about it Snuff; the inhabitants of those regions would only get offended if they knew how to read or had access to the internet.

As for the creator of the thread itself, are you on crazy pills?

I can't speak to the rest of the province, but with regards to Galway, the only unfair advantage Mayo has is it doesn't have to share a border with Tipperary. :)
