S Quigley, who somehow got a transfer from Cooley to Sean O Mahony's at the start of this year is now going to sign for Dundalk Gaels.

The merry go round continues in Louth

On a side note, How did Osbourne ever gets his transfer approved from Bar's to O Connolls

Sure why wouldn't Seamus have gotten a transfer last year.the man is probably 40, and still training away fair play to him.he wasn't their number 1 gk. The Gaels have struggled for a regular keeper for years.

They will probably get a transfer too.

The farce of Louth GAA will continue

Cant understand the hostility towards transfers in the GAA. If a player is unhappy for whatever reason at his current club, why shouldn't he be allowed leave? After all, this is an amateur sport. Why should someone be forced to stay with a club they most likely joined when they where 8 or 9 years old?
Granted no one wants to see mass exits in clubs, but I don't this would happen. I also understand the worry of big clubs poaching the best players of the smaller clubs, but maybe a cap on how many players a club could sign could prevent that.

Can we use this thread to update any club transfers for 2018 season?

Any talk of who is moving where so far?

Transfers used be published in all the local papers up to a few years ago, even the applications that were unsuccessful. then for some reason this stopped.

I don't see why they have to be so secretive.

In this day and age the county board could publish the list on their Twitter account.

Instead, anyone with an interest in what's going on has to rely on word of mouth and that shouldn't be the case.

I reckon the papers used to be the most efficient way of getting the list out to the Clubs. Now I'm pretty sure each Club gets the list sent onto them by email so no need for the papers.

Even with that the list used to only be sent out after all decisions have been made. This will not be until March/April this year.

I never get why there is always such a circus around transfers.

Do the county board not release them so lads don't get any abuse maybe

March or April before decisions are out?

How are lads expected to plan for the year ahead if they don't know what club they will be playing with?

Why is the process so dragged out?

April was probably too much of a stretch but it will be the March county board meeting I'd say before final list is public. Individuals will know as soon as a decision on their individual request is made. Appeals are what drag out a few and until all are settled the final list won't be sent out.

You have to remember March CB meeting could mean final decisions have been made in February and player and clubs already notified.

It's not that exciting really.

Why don't they just accept applications at the start of December and then send to the clubs for their response prior to the end of the year. This would allow players and clubs certainty as soon as possible into the new season.

Done that way in other counties.

The deadline was the second/third weekend in December up until this year. It was changed because with convention and Christmas it wasn't being dealt with until January anyway. Like in most counties. I believe Meath is a similar date to us in January, Monaghan is February and in Kerry you have to the March 1st.

Apart from anyone that gets themselves stuck in an appeal most decisions are made and individuals are notified around the start of February.

Is there really a problem here or are we just feigning outrage to keep this thread going until someone posts a potential transfer so we can gossip about it?

Yes I'm outraged and demand a resolution.

Just having a conversation but sure I'll leave you to talk to yourself.

I'd imagine the lads on here know a high profile transfer but won't say and maybe it is one of them that are actually transferring and are getting nervous about the whole structure of the transfer system.
