I'd agree they were close to being the best ever .

Had they had an easier route , say playing lower division teams which meant they could peak later - I'd say Tyrone would have won back to backs .

Wexford the first proper Football superpower of the game with a feat only once equalled throughout the history of the GAA.

The Hurling team of the 50's that brought a style of hurling never seen before and admired far and wide, widely recognised as the first team to be completely comfortable with ball in hand and at the time whilst other teams adopted more of a pull first time approach.

That hurling team of the 50's shone as a beacon for the weaker counties daring to break the stranglehold of the more competitive counties, beating Tipperary, Cork and Kilkenny all in the same year of 56 be it league or championship.

Breaking Croke Park hurling final attendance records in 54 and 56. (along with Cork obviously)

After winning an All Ireland in 56 deciding to carry the great Christy Ring from the pitch shoulder high before celebrating a famous victory

The feeling deep down in your gut that much like 1798 theres always another rising around the corner, we may never dominate but every so often theres a rising where we defy the odds and rise again, be that one game, two or entire seasons, in many ways completely dominating might not suit our spirit down here, it was said that four in a row football team simply grew fed up winning although I wouldn't mind giving the dominance gig a go for a while ;)

Cheers RightStuff!

I'd say our better chances to repeat were 2004 and 2009 oddly enough.

2004 just wasn't right after the loss of Cormac whatever happened, I think at the time it was hard for all of us to take in completely.

2009 they just didn't show up or weren't allowed to show up against Cork for the semi final, that was a really impressive performance from Cork, the pace, strength and size were like nothing i'd seen before in the G.A.A. I really thought they'd push on and change the game in terms of physicality but they couldn't beat their Kerry demons in Croker....one of the biggest shames of the modern era to me. All that's said about Donegal it was yourselves that went and did what Cork should have done i.e. bringing the physicality, the gym work the difference I see there is that relentless ambition to win cups for the county, it was a Hurricane coming to town every time with Donegal....Cork have all the talent and seem to lack that desire for whatever reason

2006 they all got injured I mean I couldn't get an actual list but it was shocking at the time...barely getting past Louth as defending champs to lose to a Laois team who had been on the rise previously but seemed to have peaked and been on a downward trajectory again, the biggest loss I feel was Brian McGuigan and that period of time until he came back to himself a bit in 2008 really underpinned how great he was for Tyrone particularly in 2005 although going into any championship match at the time without Brian Dooher was a bad idea for Tyrone.

So there's my in depth analysis....even though you didn't ask for it :P

Great beaches, endless sunny south east weather, a river runs through it, Opera in October, the Rackards and the rebels of '98, what the hell more could anyone want. A win on Sunday would complete this Eden of paradise.... Then again spronging out cow dung every week brings me back to reality....oh, well...

A rich history in club football, Baltinglass - All Ireland and Leinster winners, Rathnew Leinster final winners, An Tochar and Tinahely Leinster Finalists. Bray Emmetts winning an All Ireland for Dublin which should be ours!! Other counties fearing coming to Aughrim for some mystical reason. Our hurlers having zero money invested in them and yet are often far more success ful than our footballers. Several promotions, Christy Ring final appearances, U21s winning the B All Ireland - the footballers had one good year 2000 under Micko. Outstanding talent in other sports - Ronnie Delany and Katie Taylor - an Olympic gold medal each. Luke Fitzgerald, Shane Byrne, Leo Cullen, Bernard Jackman, Reggie Corrigan - Darren Randolph, Paul McShane - golfer Paul Dunne, Formula One Eddie Jordan. Best scenery in Leinster bar none.

I know other teams have lost finals and some even more but they have also picked up wins. I think our mentality is to keep banging on the door and eventually it will fall down. I am also proud of our hero's of the past and hoping that the hero's of today can become legends. I am beginning to watch too many great Mayo fans go to their eternal rest without having witnessed a Mayo man climb the Hogan steps. Life is more important than football but when the life and heartbeat of your county is football, it is a huge part of life."
Agree. It's the never give up attitude of our players. They put their all into it time and time again. And the fans are terrific , always there, no matter what, to support our lads.
It's that hope, which we all cling to . Hope, that some day will be our day!l And it will!l

Let's be honest the Dubs are the only county who bring a bit of glamour to the GAA whether we are good/bad/indifferent.

Also the pubs and chippers love the dubs.

Great place for the culchies to get a bit of shopping done too.
