Is beating Dublin bigger than winning Sam?

Beating Dublin would be high on peoples agenda but better than winning an AI??? C'mon...

No, we beat Dublin regularly, but Sam remains elusive.

I would prefer to beat a Kerry team over a Dublin team any day. Wining the AI is what players dream about since they are a child. Not beating Dublin.

1742444 Mayo might have made a DVD after the 06 semi but the look on the faces on the Hill as McDonald's winner sailed over the bar was priceless.

Most have thought beating dublin was the final and the kerry game was the Goal challenge game

No Mayo didn't make a DVD. Anyway what good is a DVD to us when we are only getting used to these dammed VHS tape recorders.

Can see you're a city slicker, still on Betamax in my area. You've probably moved on from dial-up interweb connections too...

To address the original question: No! '06 and 2012 were fine championship victories, but ultimately losing Sam overshadowed both of them. Even settling the Kerry hoodoo won't cut it unless Sam crosses into our fair county.

I think secretly if every culchie had to choose between one or the other they'd all pick beating the Dubs over winning SAM.

Thats the reality of it.

Are some dubs that insecure that they need this validation?

TELL US WE MEAN MORE THAN AN ALL-IRELAND! PLEASE PLEASE TELL US!

Silly question, Of course every team would like to beat Dublin when they meet, no more that beating Kerry in the championship is a little bit sweeter than beating anyone else for us. But at the end of the day nobody would take a single victory over us ahead of winning an all Ireland.

Sometimes this site brings back the memories of my youth.Like being in baby infants in Primary School.Although im nearly sure the conversation was a little more stimulating back then.

Silly silly question. ..dubs won 2 out of last 19 all irelands ...same as galway +meath ...less than tyrone and a lot less than kerry??? Bigger than an all ireland only in your head

The Dubs have been already beaten by anyone worth their salt gunning for the AI already.

Yerra Clondalkin lay off the sauce its barely gone lunchtime on a Thursday, bit early to be preparing for the Kildare game!

We both know beating Kerry is the be all and end all for the rest of ye, sure this not a proper All Ireland until ye have the Kingdom beaten along the way, just ask the Cork boys....

I see the Dubs are back proclaiming to be the standard bearers of football in the country. How will all the other counties ever achieve their great heights of success from the current reigning all ireland..sorry i mean cakewalk leinster champions.

Won a mere two all irelands and they swear they are the greatest team of all time. Give me a break. I live in Dublin and heard how unbeatable they were all last year for 9 months and laughed it off, but this thread tops it..cringe worthy stuff, even from a dub.

It reminds me of the old joke about the Dub with the inferiority complex.
He thought everyone else was as good as he was......

Some younger Dublin supporters seem to have completely bought into the media hype about how good the current Dublin team is and how long lasting the good times are going to go on. Just thinking about it, it's not that dissimilar to the attitude some of the Ulster teams had in the noughties.

Worth remembering that Dublin had a 30 plus year patch where they failed to beat Kerry in the championship.
Even worse Kerry went through their "famine period" of 11 years during this stretch.

One could argue that it is as the Derry v Dublin 1993 semi final is probably more famous than the final of that year.

1742400 Just wondering cause I know how much it means for a county to come to Croke Park and beat The Dubs is that actually better/bigger than winning Sam??

I'd say it would mean pretty much the same for a county to beat Dublin outside Croke Park too if they weren't a protected species in HQ.
