The Back Door System - Success or Failure?

Huge success. The more games the better. It's done wonders for local economies now too. I don't think it even warrants a discussion.

Haven't a clue what thinking goes on within the GAA, have the 4 provincials finals played before the end of June then play the last round of qualifiers around the 15th July then play the quarterfinals August Bank Holiday weekend. The 1st game in Connacht is played May bank holiday in New York, the 1st game in Ulster is played a week or so later, plenty of time to play the matches and give beaten provincial finalists teams a chance to recover

Omahant,

Further to my post on another thread, I have examined the incentive to win each round under your proposal. That is, how many times more likely to win AI are the winners of the match than the losers. Incentives under the current system are in brackets.

Preliminary
Factor=1.33 (Current=4)

Quarter final
Factor=1.67 (Current=7)

Semi final
Factor=4 (Current=6)

Prov final
Factor=3 (Current=2)

Champs play off
Factor=2

Tommy Murphy Round 1
Factor=2

Tommy Murphy Round 2
Factor=1. This means there is no incentive to win this game. I'll have to double check that one.

To Tommy 58 -
You are absolutely right. TMC Rd 2 has a factor of 1.
As I limit the 3rd chance to only 12 teams, 4 TMC Rd 2 winners go to the TMC SFs needing 5 KO wins for Sam,
while the 4 losers enter Qual Rd 3, also requiring 5 KO wins.

Thx for calculating the other Win/Loss Match Importance Factors.
I deduce that while the current higher factors suggest greater importance of the prov stream, my lower factors give the provs less weight
and somewhat neutralise their imbalance as they remain unchanged.
