You cannot have Flynn in there. A good athlete but not in the top 15 in the country skill wise

They must play a different type of football in the south-east do they?

For me, Flynn has the complete skillset required of a gaelic footballer.

Strength? Check
Pace? Check
Tackling Ability? Check
Field a High Ball? Check
Point Scorer? Check
Goal Scorer? Check

Yez must have awful high standards down there!

D Connolly is the player I've been most impressed with outside of my own county. Scored some awesome points in their semi-final.

Flynn is one of the best half forwards this year and has been for a few years. Works hard for the team and well capable of taking some fines scores. Him an Connolly could probably both get All Stars this year.

These threads only show our lack of knowledge of our game. Its like within a county. We know the county stars and some of the better club players but you could have a gem playing in a Junior team but because the team aren't successful we never hear of them.

We all know the household names in county football but there could be a real fantastic player in one of the lesser counties that could be the best corner back or midfielder in Ireland but because his team never really gets to the big stage we will never know. I'd like to open a thread at the start of 2015 for each county to highlight one or two players (new or old) to keep and eye out on for the year.

Donal keoghan of Meath is consistently the best defender in the country, McGee wouldn't lace this boots. And not one mention of him. Pointless thread and totally inaccurate.

you make a fair point, but its hard to say we should be watching out for a player if realistically their county wont go far in the championship.

an example of some players who would be in the top 15 if from a more successful county would include:
jamie clarke
john heslin
niall morgan
kevin reilly
niall mcnamee
gareth bradshaw

but there is a reason why certain teams are as successful as they are - because they have the best players!
there's no denying the quality of michael murphy, lee keegan, colm cooper, diarmuid connolly, etc.

but there is certainly an element of truth in regard to some players (who i wont name) who wouldnt even be mentioned if playing with a weaker county.

Was wondering when we would hear about Keogham from Meath on the team...... Royaldunne you really are making yourself look silly when you say Mc Gee would not lace his boots...... We can go through all the list of players he has marked this year and how many points he conceded against them, of the top of my head, he out scored JOD and Jamie Clarke when he marked them, wouldn't be hard mind you considering neither of them scored a singe point,

Paddy Keenan. He will be sorely missed in the Wee County.

Royaldunne in relation to Donal Keoghan, I don't rate him he has got destroyed by Conor McManus twice in the past 18 months 8 points in clones in 2013 and 7 points in 2014. Out of the 15 points 10 where from play.

No MesAmis, Aidan O'Shea. Seamus wasn't great this year, and isn't the player his brother is anyway. AOS seems to suffer from the C.Ronaldo syndrome - because he has an unusual haircut and expresses his genuine opinion when asked, instead of the party line, people seem to want him to fail, and anything he does wrong gets remembered. The reality is, there aren't many midfielders in living memory who could have scored that goal against cork, and his collision with O'Connor probably gave Kerry the platform they needed around the middle in our loss. I can tell you now, as good as moran was, he wouldn't have had 40 odd possessions had that not happened, the drawn game showed that, where o'shea ruled the skies for the entire third quarter. The guy doesn't get the credit he deserves, because people seem to have a personal dislike for him.

I quite like Aidan O'Shea. I think he's a great footballer, in the half forward line. Like you say, no midfielder would've scored that goal v Cork, you're right of course because a midfielder didn't score that goal as AOS wasn't playing at midfield against Cork. O'Shea is at his most devastingly affective when he's not at midfield imo.

If he's let off to win ball and drive a team forward he's excellent but at midfield the opposition can get plenty of change outta him going back the other way imo. Horan, very cleverly imo, recognised this and moved AOS outta midfield where he was a bit of a liability and it worked fantastically. You're right of course, Aodan O'Shea's injury in Limerick probably gave Kerry their platformto win. What might of been!

Firstly in one of those league matches he didn't mark him.
I'll say it again McGee is not a patch on keoghan

Which game was that? The game where he scored 6 points from play in 2013 Donal was marking him. Donal wouldn't lace Eammon McGee's Boots as he wouldn't get near McManus as been proven or James O'Donaghue

this is a funny thread.no one outside the top 4 teams is better than the first team picked?"? not living in the real world.i can assure anyone that theres no better midfielders in ireland than gary brennan of clare or john heslin or westmeath...and kevin hartnett is as good a full back as there is in ireland.what about niall mcnamee playing on a mediocre offaly team ?and standing out like a beacon?

Of course they 'have high standards down there' after all only they and Kerry have won four All Irelands in a row

@ Royaldunne
Keoghan is a fine player alright but hes nowhere as good as mc gee and for you to say otherwise is just showing blind loyalty to a player from your own county! As for you icehonesty saying paul flynn is not good enough to be on a best 15 well that just shows how much you know about the game! I love the dublin players and im always thankful to them for the time and effort they put in for the cause but im always able to recognise the talent and ability of players from counties outside of my own and when im at a dubs match i also enjoy watching players from other teams displaying their skills! im a dubs supporter first a football lover second!

Flynn and Connolly are two of the best wing forwards in the country

In my opinion E.McGee is not the greatest of footballers, Kieran Hughes has done well on him everytime we met
