Replying To Laoisvillian:  "Laois written off by all & sundry including the bookies

Yesterday was a bad day, but I think we'll learn from it.

It will stand to a lot of the young lads on that team, plus I think it will prompt a bit of a mentality change on the sideline and hopefully we'll have a couple of key players back from injury.

It will be close, but I reckon Laois will have enough nous to overcome the Derry defensive set-up (I haven't seen Derry in a few years, so my view of how they play is completely clouded by Brolly's columns!)"
Derry are a strong side & have powered their way through the League. Unlike you & I'm sure many other Laois people who haven't seen them play, we in Leitrim know them well. They will be a tough test for you.they are really a Div 2 side and have 7 Slaughneill players as their backbone who were All-Ireland Club champions.

Interesting that a Clare post is giving the game to Leitrim while every other poster is predicting an easy Clare victory. While Leitrim have their shortcomings the season has proved they are hard to beat and they don't give up easily. The Roscommon game was an aberration-we just didn't turn up on the day. Leitrim v Wicklow was a poor game riddled with sloppy passing, silly mistakes with Leitrim the main culprits. Last year Leitrim beat Div 2 side Louth so I wouldn't write them off. Last time we met was Clare's promotion out of Div 4 in a drawn game played in a gale force wind when Clare dragged us to Milton Malbay- a ploy that nearly came unstuck. Are they better than Leitrim? On form & paper yes but I comfort myself with their 1 pt win away to Waterford, not the most most convincing of victories and a defeat to a Kerry side who were poor on the day. Leitrim lack the physicality of Clare a major reason for the Roscommon debacle . However most Leitrim fans are looking for a credible performance ahead of life in Div 3. A victory on Saturday would be a bonus. Let the battle commence!

I've been keeping a close eye on Leitrim's progress under Terry Hyland's. Now the only game I saw them in live was the Division 4 final where Derry were just that bit better all over the field.

But I think they have a real chance against Clare - in a way, it's the perfect draw for Leitrim. . .home game, underdogs so no pressure. . .and against a team who play open football, but who would represent a real scalp for this improving Leitrim side.

A good performance and a loss wouldn't be a disaster, whereas a win would be huge - a great opportunity!
