Football Squad 2019.

I believe a huge amount of players haven't committed this year. As I said above, its the poorest team we have had in years

Unfortunately a lot of players do not want to commit due to the ultra defensive style cooney and kelleghan employ, there is no enjoyment to it, so they will need to find a squad that are willing to buy into it..

Where are these rumours coming from? I haven't heard any names who are/aren't commiting. Is it all hearsay at this stage?

I've heard of two players that have been involved over the last few years not committing. As far as I'm aware neither were due to not wanting to play for Cooney though.

It will be interesting to see the O Byrne cup team on the 8th of December. Is that still the 2019 O Byrne cup if we win it?

Any news on challenge matches. O Byrne cup around the corner. Word on the street is the team has been training very hard.

We haven't won one since 1988, I don't think it will matter if its 2018 or 2019 we wont be winning it any time soon.

I see Heslin and Ray Connelan aren't playing this year.

Very old news. A chance for others to step up and I'm looking forward to Cooney trying out different players over the following months.

Old news anon the fringe players will get their chance in the next few games. The team won't change a whole lot but the style will be fully defensive . Our manager and his assistant are ultra defensive coachest and the upcoming game against carlow will not be very attack minded

The experimental rules won't make blanket defence easy. There will be a lot of men caught in possession coming out with the ball.

The idea of playing in defence played a part also in Heslin's decision

Can hardly be any more defensive than Cribben last year.

Good God could we give the manager a chance. We haven't even played an O Byrne cup match and it's all negativity.

Don't get carried away lads. That was Carlows B team.
League will be a better indication of where we are both at.

I think the lads might have been posting in jest. It was Westmeath's B team too :)

Fair point

Poor enough fair, think ultimately the 3 handpass rule will have a negative effect on scoring because there were several occasions Westmeath were moving forward, made a couple of handpasses and when nothing was on, a big long footpass back to the half back line was made, when one or two more handpasses may have resulted in a scoring opportunity. Thought Carlow were quite negative particularly in the last 10 minutes sitting back allowing Westmeath to hold the ball and pass it around. Pettit had a good game also Loughlin when he came in.
