Senior Club Football Championship 2018

Corofin deserving winners but game today would have been very close if wasnt for very poor refereeing. Ref in the drawn game very good and if anything mtbellew got the benefit of any decisions on day 1. But in the replay mtbellew got very few breaks from the ref. Still have to say the best team won but the margin is a lot tighter than people think between these teams . There is no arguing that it was poor fare both days but i predict a bright future fir Galway club football with many more open tussles betwen these 2 as well as annaghdown salthill and 1 or 2 others

Replying To hughsie:  "Men against boys! Very surprising that MM didn't push up the field but I wonder if they ever felt they had the football ability to challenge corofin 15 vs 15. Barret mildfield is a good fielder but his challenges on Steede went unpunished by the ref including a lot of late tackles seen by both linesman and ref. A team relying on Daly and McHugh who Fitzgerald has in his pocket all day.

When the questions were asked Corofin have answered with the final score difference not reflecting their dominance with 2 goals missed.

Lot of work for doing but MM years off their level.

Bad for Galway football !"
What game were you watching ? steede in particular and other corofin players were just falling off trying to get people sent off !
Happened a few times in first half especially steede

Barrett was very lucky not to have received a second yellow in the first half. There was a huge amount of third man tackling going on that was not picked up on by the officials. Mountbellew lost discipline and their heads near the end, there was no place on the field for some of the stuff that went off the ball, Barry McHugh should have recieved more than a yellow for his actions towards Kieran Fitz, there's no place for that behaviour anywhere, disgusting stuff.

As soon as the goal went in, the game was practically over, Mountbellew set up to protect a lead and there was no plan B whatsoever.
Corofin learnt from last week, as soon as they went ahead they stayed patient on the ball, knew they didn't have to bring the ball past the 45, as they knew Mountbellew would not press. It was horrible stuff to watch, but that wasn't Corofin's fault.

Hard to believe Mountbellew had no plan B, it almost beggars belief that there was no scenario talked about that if they conceded a goal, went a few points down etc, there would push up and go man to man with Corofin. They have some excellent footballers, but had zero chance to win yesterday with the negative tactics they employed for the full game.
To only score 1 point in 35 odd minutes of the second half, with county players Mike Daly, Eoin Finnerty and Barry McHugh in the attack, is a damning indictment of their performance and tactics yesterday, it's hard to score unless you put bodies into the opposition half though.

Cortoon, Kilconly, Caltra relegated.

Not too many Senior teams north of Tuam any more.

And people wondering why Kevin Walsh picks too many lads from the Wesht!

Plus you had Williamstown, Glenamaddy, St Brendan's and K/C in Intermediate relegation playoffs with Glan and Brendan's making the drop to Junior.

Football in North East Galway is in a poor state at the moment.

Was certain this was the year they'd drop but fairplay they made up for throwing it away late last week.

No Kieran Fitzgerald is a bit of a head scratcher, both McHugh and Comer included and he had the upper hand on both of those, not to mention winning his 13th county medal, load of nonsense.

Ian Burke won all-star, but doesn't make it. It being the 'dream team' and all, you'd certainly hope that lads won't be 'losing any sleep' over it.

Very liberal with the use of positions there. Gearoid Armstrong played mainly as a running wing back most of the year and Eoin Kerin is an out and out number 6 for annaghdown.

he only played 3 games... the semi vs Comer and the 2 finals vs mchugh!! he had nothing to do vs mchugh in the 2 games and he was pulling and dragging out of comer in the other! how can he deserve a club star for that?

That is incorrect about the games he played.

People would want to take of the Kiernan Fitz rose tinited glasses. Really nice guy but he only played 3 games in this years championship including replay. He is no saint on the pitch and to say he should have an award for his displays this year is nonsense

Lot of people listening to Ollie Turner on the radio talk about him at full back like he is 2018 Cian O Sullivan.

Is a legend of a player but rest of that defence is nearly carrying him at this stage.
