Minors 2019

Following the underage setup now for a while since I hung up the boots , went to clones on Saturday to see how this years team would shape up , bitterly disappointed to say the least ,
read the preview of it in Irish news on Saturday morning thinking it should be should be a cracking match , considering they had the abbey ranafast team to bring in and the red high Mclarnon winners to bring in to strengthen, surely enough the abbey lads where there , but only 1 red high player on the panel , surely this same south down , east down divide couldn't still be going on ,looked at program to see 4 east down lads starting with no red high , winning ulster must mean nothing as far as our management team is concerned.
Asking a few lads at match how they thought this team would fair out who all thought they do well considering they beat Dublin Kildare and Monaghan etc at under 16 level last year , but they continued to say a few didn't come threw this year, lad Croskery from east down very good keeper with kickouts very good , lad Connor also from east down , who played full forward for red high scoring 3 points from play in ulster final , young tumelty very talented full back , lad Donaldson another east down midfielder who was on the red high ulster winning team ,,

Surely these things need to be looked at how a team can go from beating top teams a year earlier to be getting beat by the likes of Sligo in league shield final and Saturday result,
Management of this years team surely not same as last years under 16 team ?? If so am sure the lads mentioned would still be in contention, this seems to the the usual setup for down football south down lead the way and throw a few east down lads in there ,,, is this part of the reason we are not winning anything at underage for a good few years now ? Is there any east down selectors on management or is it all south men ,Maybe someone might know the answers to this?

Unfortunatly this South Down East Down ,thing has raised its ugly head again, and to be honest its dead heads like you that keeps this nonsense going, When im at a Down match ,weather its under age right to senior I never would look at the programme ,going through the team saying,he is from east down, or he is from south down ,Icouldent care less where the player is from ,if he is good enough he should be on the team or panel, There is no South or East Down jersey, Just a very proud red and black Down one, You also mentioned managers and selectors ,the last Down senior manager was from Bryansford, the current ,U 20 manager from Downpatrick , Inever heard anyone once ,mention were they were from, ,And to say ,the usual set up and throw a few east down lads in there sums you up pal, So please do us ALL a favour GROW UP

5 east down players actually.

Rannafast players are St Colman's boys.

County minor is definitely a step up from schools competitions - so just because someone does well at school level doesn't necessarily man they should be in the county team.

Need to be careful using previous year's u16 as a reference - have to remember that most counties will have their best u16s in the u17 panel (Down had 4 u16s starting against Monaghan - I'm sure some of the Monaghan lads are eligible for u16 too) - so u16 teams might not actually be the best u16 team from a county.

Fair point about younger lads playing for minors ,which means under 16s hard to judge I suppose, as for the schools if I am right in saying the red high competition is a under 19 cup , therefore 2 years old than minors , so I would say the intensity of a ulster final would be a high a county under 17s , any lad who get 3 points in the surely would have something to offer county minors wherever ask st Colmans lads is a 5th competition

I am not talking about under 20 or seniors , if you read the post it states minor!!! Also noticed Down minors was the only county that didn't go to launch of minor championship, that shows lack of respect !

Im talking about all Down teams, You made reference about South Down lead the way , and throw in a few East Down lads , which is total nonsense , Anything Down ever won it was all together, And for anyone to bring this rubbish up is being mischievous to say the least

After reading the report on minor match in Irish news , to see the comments the minor manager made was a total insult to the players and to the mourne academy, there is a lot of good professional work going on from under 14 level over the past number of years , as I said in previous post about last years under 16 team beating couple of big guns in the underage setup , would like to know how many lads that played against Dublin last year played against Tyrone on Sunday ? , all ages at development squad are doing very well and beating top teams at their level , for minor manager to say he has to work with what he has is definitely not true , the talent is there , but it how's it brought forward, st Colmans winning the all Ireland and red high winning ulster in which 1 lad is on the squad ,, this is the current managers fourth year in charge and has won nothing and yet he has the audacity to blame everyone else but his own management team , think it's time for change and fast if we want to get back to winning ways

Minors very disappointing on Sunday in the second half after being on top in first half. I felt Tyrone management won the game by switching their team about. The Down management never responded quick enough and Tyrone had momentum and produced scores at the right time. Another observation, The down management or at least assistant managers (all former down footballers) were all very vocal along the line but the Tyrone management appeared much more calm and controlled. Maybe players respond better to this approach! Maybe is time for another change and agree talent is in county....

I see the McCarten bros were at the under 16 Gerry Reilly cup match V Dublin on Saturday, surely to god they won't be getting another year in charge next season of the minors after their disaster in charge , playing both teams that contested the ulster minor final yesterday,we had both of them practically beat and couldn't finish both games off threw lack of changes along the line in the closing stages , roaring and shouting senseless instructions from the sidelines , as I have said many times , it's time for chance and fast
