Down Camogie

Our Girls performed very well in croke park today. They showed they have as much ability as cork. If they can build on this and take their fitness to next level they can win this next year. Great to see a down team in croke park again and challenging hard. Keep it going.

It was a tight game, and Cork probably just had the edge, but the referee did us no favours from start to finish. Cork got their frees much more readily than we did the whole way through, and the red card was an incredibly harsh call which finished us off when we were still capable of taking the game to the wire.

Yes ref was harsh. Cork marginally better today but down are good enough to win this.

Not impressed by the ref in this game; far too many soft frees going the way of Cork. Well done to the camogs though, I hope they bounce back and get to HQ next time around. Red cards was VERY harsh!

Great effort by our girls but the truth is they were well beaten by the better team.

The sending off was very harsh but had no real impact on the outcome. Cork were well in control by that stage.

Hopefully this team will stick together and give it another go next year.

Totally agree, didn't win enough puck outs around mid- field and half forward, dirty ball has to be won. Thought refs ruined both games, time hurling rules were introduced the game has moved on big time in last 30 years.

The Carr sisters have been on the go a long time for Down, not sure of their age and they'll be a big loss to that team, although I hear they don't really commit until championship which can't be easy to manage as they're both great players.
Fair play to the girl who took over the management, she at least tried something different with the wind and was working OK until Magee had to go off to get cleaned up. Magee had been playing well up until that point, but struggled to get back into the game when reintroduced.

Down looked to be a good bit behind in terms of strength and conditioning and whilst the stickwork was on a par, the inability to win "ruck" ball and Cork had girls with real pace made the difference.

Refereeing was on a total different level to awful. Cork girl had the ball three times in the hand for a score in the first half and they got softer frees throughout. SL Carr had barely lifted the ball and turned into the Cork girl standing her ground. Neither did anything wrong, unintentional contact, play on, no free and certainly no yellow card.

Best team won, but at least they gave it a rattle.

I think you can do that in camogie. Some of the rules are different.

that rule was aligned with hurling back in the 90's IIRC.

They can still handpass a goal and also drop the hurl to handpass a ball away. Both abominations IMO.
