Senior Football Clubs in Derry

(Oldest Posts First)

New to the area and wanting to play football / hurling to as high a level as possible. Based in derry city, who would be the best club to join to play both hurling and football? Senior clubs preferably. Haven't a clue of the gaa club scene up here but strength seems to be in the rural areas.

There is only one football club playing senior football in Derry city at the moment, Steelstown. The city has one hurling club, Na Magha who wouldn't be of a senior standard. If this is a necessity the nearest senior hurling club to you would probably be Kevin Lynches in Dungiven or Banagher based in Feeny. Hope this helps and any questions just ask.

Steelstown(Football) and Na Magha(Hurling) are right next to each other. They have a lot of players playing for each club at underage especially. Steelstown are senior football and Na Magha are intermediate hurling. Na Magha havent played senior since 2002 but are progressive with some very good hurling men involved. The aim is to get back there soon. They took a decision to play their club hurling in Antrim last year and this year to gaurantee more games.

Do you intend to play hurling and football for the same club? That is not possible in the city. The nearest club with both football and hurling teams playing at senior level would probably be Banagher.

Steelstown are the strongest football club in the city and would be a strong intermediate team.
Na Magha are the only hurling club in the city but are junior level.
